CARDINALS REDUCE SPRING ROSTER BY SEVEN; 51 PLAYERS REMAIN IN MAJOR LEAGUE CAMP
JUPITER, Fla., March 11, 2023 – The St. Louis Cardinals announced today that the team has reduced its Spring Training roster to 51 players, with seven players optioned or assigned to minor league camp.
The team optioned pitcher Jake Walsh and infielder Jose Fermín to the Memphis (AAA) roster and re-assigned non-roster pitchers Gordon Graceffo, Michael McGreevy and Dalton Roach to minor league camp along with non-roster catchers Nick Raposo and Wade Stauss.

Nothing surprising here. Graceffo and McGreevy are both going to be good pitchers, but both got knocked around pretty good in their limited exposure. Walsh will be one of the guys on the Memphis Express this year. Roach is more of a project at this point; he’s needing more minor time to see what they have. There are still 4 NRI pitchers on the roster, including prospect Tink Hence.
Fermin is depth and could be outrighted if/when a bigger need arises or he gets passed performance-wise by a better prospect or an NRI guy that could squeeze his way onto the roster; prospects like Masyn Winn or Jordan Walker, or utility guys Kramer Robertson or Taylor Motter maybe. The other fielding NRIs still are Luken Baker and Juniel Querecuto.
The catchers are just depth as well; every time a few pitchers go down, a few catcher will as well. There are still 3 NRI catchers with the team.
The Cardinals cut 7 other players last weekend as well.
