Halo On PS5: Great News For Gamers, Bad News For Xbox

“this is good for the consumer, but will it work out for Xbox”

Halo: Campaign Evolved, a modern take on the 2001 original is coming to Xbox Series X/S, PC, Xbox Cloud gaming and PS5. Yes, you read that right, Halo will be on PlayStation. Truly these are the end times.

On October 24th Microsoft tweeted that the new remake of the original Halo had a release window of 2026 and would be available on all of the aforementioned platforms. This set the internet abuzz with speculation as to why this was happening and I’m here to give my two cents.

Xbox Price Increases How It Plays In

Halo on PS5

This might seem off topic but stay with me. Microsoft has been increasing prices across the board for game pass and series X/S consoles. Before this happened people were wondering how Xbox game pass could be profitable doing the math, it doesn’t make sense. Sure they get customers, but does that matter when you’re essentially giving games away? No, I think they were lying and now they’re panicking. They have to make the Xbox brand profitable to some degree.

How does that play into Halo on PS5. Well, it seems as though Microsoft is now playing nice to try and get as many players as possible. Get the games out there, doesn’t matter where they play as long as they play. And this is good for the consumer, (mostly) but will it work out for Xbox. I don’t know for sure, but I don’t think so. It seems as though they’re going a similar route as Sega. They may be profitable, but they’re not in the running as a major 1st party developer any more.

So Could It Work?

Yes. What they’re doing could work and I could be wrong. But I don’t think I am and I don’t think it will. Anything is possible though, so it is possible.

But what do you think? Am I totally off course? If you have you’re own theories I would be glad to hear them and if you have criticism of mine, tell me. Maybe I’m missing something, I am only one person.
