UK Alt-Pop/Electronic Artist SALT ASHES Releases Rousing Sophomore Album ‘Killing My Mind’

It takes true merit to punch through the alt-pop genre, a very crowded space where artistry is very often immediately compromised into streaming and TikTok tropes, so the effort of Salt Ashes aka Veiga Sanchez on ‘Love, Love’ is felt that much more.” – Ones To Watch

A pop star with immaculate self-governing credentials, equal parts charty and arty.” – The Guardian

“Salt Ashes is the dame of dark pop…” – Wonderland

Releases Rousing Sophomore Album
Killing My Mind

Tackles Relationships, Mental Health,
and the enormous problem of Sexual Harassment

NOVEMBER 5, 2021 (London, UK) — Hotly-tipped UK-based alt-pop/electronic artist SALT ASHES (real name: Veiga Sanchez) today released her highly anticipated sophomore album, Killing My Mind, via Radikal Records. The album has arrived with the focus track “Body Says,” a pulsating anthem about owning your body and choices.

An album that explores all of the relationships in her life, including hers with the patriarchy, on Killing My Mind, Salt Ashes crafts a fierce combination of slick yet gritty pop, carrying hard-hitting messages that both challenge and empower in equal measure. Speaking of the release, Veiga said: “It’s a journey through the last couple of years so it feels very personal and cathartic… I have to stop myself from crying occasionally as some of the subjects are still very raw. But I love that. It makes me know that I really wrote from the heart on this album.”

With Giorgio Moroder-inspired synthscapes, a pulsating four-to-the-floor beat, and Veiga’s soaring vocals, the album’s focus track, “Body Says” is nothing short of epic. Speaking of the song, Veiga said: “I wrote this with my producer Louis [Souyave], which was a very enlightening experience as we wrote this from a female perspective. It was interesting to see how he understood the struggles women face on a night out without me even saying anything. I want this song to empower people but also just want to get down and fucking dance.”    WHAT THE PRESS IS SAYING:“Salt Ashes identified both her sound and strength on a solid debut of alternative dance-pop, a vocal that sat in a sweet spot between Kelela and Kylie.” – The Line Of Best Fit

“She channels the glacial tones of Scandi-pop singers like MØ… adds a deeply organic and earthy element to the genre” – DIY

Her trademark blend of dance music with darker themes comes across loud and clear…” – Billboard   The album was preceded by the singles “Too Many Times,” “Love, Love,” and most recently “Lucy,” which received a premiere from Wonderland magazine. Arriving with a Wes Anderson / Tarantino-inspired music video, self-directed by and starring Salt Ashes, the song speaks out against violence towards women. Whilst taking a tongue-in-cheek approach, the video also tackles the theme of the song head-on and illustrates a very real experience of Salt Ashes.  The album was co-written with Louis Souyave during the height of lockdown, a process that Veiga said “helped us get through all our anxieties we were having at the time”. She continues: “We pushed through though and are very proud of what we created. We took inspiration from some  of our favorite ’80s tracks and bands and had a lot of fun creating all the many sounds within the album.”
