Art-Rockers ECCE SHNAK Return with New Single “Eddie, Legalistic Homeslice”
NYC art-rock provocateurs Ecce Shnak return with “Eddie, Legalistic Homeslice,” the second single from their forthcoming album Dandy Variances, due later this year via Records, Man Records.
Recorded and produced by Jeff Lucci and mixed by Grammy Award-winning producer Mario McNulty (David Bowie, Prince, Nine Inch Nails, Julian Lennon), the new track showcases the band’s signature blend of technical precision, theatrical energy, and delightfully unpredictable songwriting.
A Celebration of Friendship, Absurdity, and Chaos
Formed in New York City’s experimental underground scene in the mid-1990s, Ecce Shnak (pronounced Eh-kay sh-knock) consists of David Roush, Bella Komodromos, Chris Krasnow, Gannon Ferrell, and Henry Buchanan-Vaughn.
At its core, “Eddie, Legalistic Homeslice” is an ode to deep friendship, complete with inside jokes, affectionate absurdity, and emotional sincerity hidden beneath layers of garage-rock chaos.
Discussing the track, Roush explains: “Like ‘Larry, Sleepover Friend’ from our 2019 Joke Oso EP, our new song is a garage-rock homage to a beloved friend of mine. Like ‘Larry,’ ‘Eddie’ explores big themes in great friendships: their gnarly ambivalences, their absurd misunderstandings, their inside-jokes, and their contradictory mix of irreverence with utmost care.”
The song’s lyrical climax arrives with what Roush jokingly calls the “oldest prayer of friendship”: “I pray you don’t be a rat in a rat-suit! Pray you don’t be a rat in a rat-costume!”
Syd and Olivia Star in New Video
The accompanying music video expands the song’s quirky spirit into a colorful buddy-comedy adventure.
Roush shared his enthusiasm for the collaboration: “We are also overjoyed to feature two great friends as the co-stars of the music video, the preposterously funny and talented comedic duo Syd and Olivia.”
Vocalist Komodromos added: “They absolutely kicked butt at their roles in this Wes-Anderson-hued buddy-comedy music video, directed and produced by DJay Brawner. It is our ardent hope that all fans of Ecce Shnak and Syd and Olivia alike can shart out with their hearts out to this badass collaboration!”

Building Momentum Toward Dandy Variances
“Eddie, Legalistic Homeslice” follows the album’s lead single “Vincent,” a theatrical, high-energy track that pays tribute to classic music video aesthetics while delivering an operatic and explosive art-rock experience.
Ecce Shnak continue to push boundaries with a sound that balances meticulous musicianship and inspired mayhem. Their 2025 Shadows Grow Fangs EP was recorded and produced by Jeff Lucci, mixed by Nicholas Vernhes (Animal Collective, Deerhunter, Wild Nothing, The War on Drugs), and mastered by Grammy-winning engineer Joe LaPorta (David Bowie, The Weeknd, Foo Fighters, Vampire Weekend).
The band recently completed a UK tour with iconic alternative outfit EMF after appearing on EMF’s single “LGBTQ+ Lover.” They also completed a joint East Coast and Midwest tour, with additional performances alongside Spacehog helping introduce their eccentric art-rock vision to new audiences.
