Release Captivating, Long-Awaited New EP Titled EP01
Premieres “Fool Anyone” Video via Under The Radar
JUNE 28, 2021 (Berlin, Germany) — Today, Berlin-based genre-defying band LOSERS have unveiled their long-awaited EP, EP01. With all four tracks, there were two halves to the production process – the initial ideas session followed by a more detailed fine tuning, all of which was separated by a couple of years. Not unlike an artist having lots of canvases with half-finished sketches to paint on, Losers have enjoyed the luxury of being able to finish things when the energy “felt right” and not rushing just so that they can say they’ve “finished a song.” In tandem with the EP release, Losers have teamed up with Under The Radar to premiere the video for their witty, up tempo electro rock single “Fool Anyone.” Check it out HERE.
The inception of “Fool Anyone” came about nearly eight years ago when Eddy Temple-Morris created a guitar loop and a top line melody which immediately connected with multi-instrumentalist Tom Bellamy. The two then recorded it as a very basic demo, but they couldn’t find the inspiration they needed to finish the rest of it. So the track actually sat in an unfinished state for years, to the point where the band forgot about it until they were taking stock one day in Berlin. Fastforward to 2020, they clicked on the track and straight away, they suddenly had the inspiration they needed in terms of what to write about. Bellamy recalls, “His name is Donald Trump and he used to be the President of the United States of America. The refrain that Eddy had put down all those years ago had found its voice and place in time… ‘You don’t fool anyone except yourself.’
For the accompanying video, the band wanted to find a tongue-in-cheek way to nod towards the perils of social media and to remind people to be careful about what they’re reading and watching. Adding, “We are constantly told that we should watch what we eat but we also need to be aware about how we feed our minds. Screen time is so damaging to us and there’s so much data to back it up. We are not only in the midst of a pandemic but also an infodemic where there is a far-reaching spread of both accurate and more importantly, inaccurate information.”

Bellamy states that even after watching The Social Dilemma and being aghast at the levels that Silicon Valley goes to in order to harness our attention, he found himself glued to technology. “Through data collected from unknowing customers companies like Cambridge Analytica were able to sway votes in a number of countries and make a complete mockery of democracy. People who were fed targeted marketing which preyed on their fear were manipulated to believe things and then act on their behavior in a way which favored those in power. And this was all possible from extrapolating data from people engaging on social media. It’s terrifying. I feel brainwashed and I know there are lots of other people who feel the same way.” In watching “Fool Anyone,” the band want people to question what it was they were watching and hopefully it will make people talk about the subject a bit more. “We can’t just sit back and allow ourselves to be manipulated. We have to stand up to these companies and make them accountable.”
Whereas “Fool Anyone” and the previous EP01 singles “Wake Up” and “Lost in Translation” really started to come to fruition after a “light at the end of the tunnel” epiphany at Primavera Festival in 2018, the band says the last track on the EP (the electronic infused indie rock number “Follow You”) came about almost instantaneously in 2015. Bellamy extols, “We started writing it around the same time as the others in 2015 but we just seemed to nail the sentiment and feel of it straight away. There was no hurry to get anything out so we just let it be, knowing that we could come back to it one day and feel good about it.” After revisiting it, the only thing they added was some live strings to really bliss it out and push the organic feel of it.
The tracks on EP01 showcase Losers journey from the heavy and somberness of their past into the lighthearted and hopeful present. The band says optimistically, “It’s time to let the light in. With the right frame of mind, even from the darkest of places, anything is possible if you put your mind to it.”
LOSERS are going to continue to stay busy for the rest of 2021 via new and innovative platforms like Decentraland (https://decentraland.org/) who they’ve been partnering with to release their new music. To sign up for free to future webinars join Club Losers HERE.
