CARDINALS CARE TO AUCTION YOHEL POZO’S AUTOGRAPHED PLAYERS’ WEEKEND BAT
Cardinals Care, the team’s charitable foundation dedicated to caring for kids, announced it will auction Cardinals catcher Yohel Pozo’s one-of-a-kind, specially-designed bat that he used during MLB Players’ Weekend this homestand with proceeds to benefit Cardinals Care and the Mercy Health Foundation.
The bat, which was autographed by Yohel and is adorned with the painted handprints of pediatric patients he recently visited at Mercy Hospital, was used to honor Pozo’s son, Paul, who experienced a series of seizures after he was born in March of 2020 that required a lengthy hospital stay and weekly check up with a variety of specialists.
Pozo proceeded to homer using the bat, blasting a 404-foot, go-ahead shot on Sunday, August 17 off New York Yankees relief pitcher Camilo Doval. “The kids asked me if I could hit a homer and I was like, ‘Well, I’m going to try,’ and then when it happen[ed] — as soon as I saw the ball and it was a homer — I almost started crying running the bases just thinking about it,” explained Pozo to Cardinals.com beat writer John Denton.
Bidding for Pozo’s bat will begin at 5PM CT on Tuesday, August 26 and run through Thursday, August 28 at 9PM CT. Bids can be placed online at cardinals.com/ccauctions.
