Beer Review: Citra Sunshine Slacker
I was strolling through the beer store recently and wanted something I hadn’t had before. In the walkin cooler, I found a can with an 8-bit picture of the Dude – Citra Sunshine Slacker from Evil Twin Brewing. I’m a sucker for the Big Lebowski, but this live up to the movie?
IBU: N/A
Style: Session IPA
Brewery Description: Despite his bitterness, lack of power and insuperable aversion to any kind of extravagant labor – he kind of has a charming charisma, and perhaps he is even loveable. Somehow we find him unbelievable irresistible and stimulating because he is one of the few that masters the ability to effortlessly impress with his sharp intelligence and make it look so damn easy.
I love IPAs, and citrus ones have been something I’ve been drinking a lot of.
This is sold in a 4-pack of cans.
Appearance: This poured into a clear golden into a standard pint glass. It had 1-2 fingers of soapy, white head; there was good retention and decent lacing.
Smell: The citrus is front and center, along with some herbal hints. It’s a very appealing mixture.
Taste: It’s much like the smell. The citrus is there; there are hints orange, lemon, and grapefruit. You also get some of the bisuity malt taste coming through too. It’s a well balanced taste.
Mouth: The mouth feel is very Light with crisp carbonation. It has a very clean finish, which you won’t find in a normal IPA.
Overall: This is a great session beer. The balanced flavors makes it very easy to drink a few.
This is a limited release beer, so I’d stock up on it if you like the style.
The Beer Advocate score is 87 (Very Good) and the Bros haven’t scored it; it’s currently not on their Top 250. Untappd has it as 3.78 with over 29,000 rankings.
I give this one 4.5 out of 5.
