A HUGE thanks goes out to Michael Gagliano (The Sails) for donning his A&R hat to bring UK poppers Moonlight Parade to the attention of Kool Kat Musik.  “Here Comes Moonlight Parade”, the first CD release by the band, is a nicely-priced, well-curated 19-track introduction to the band that draws tracks from their previous digital and/or vinyl releases.

Moonlight Parade album cover

“Moonlight Parade seem to beguile and enchant everyone that hears them.  Discovered during COVID lockdown, their music came to me at exactly the right time and lit up my soul and ears in equal measure. They were not some secret next-big-thing waiting to burst out into the new music scene that was in its infancy, but a well-established group.  The brilliant thing about them is that while they already sound like 20 classic artists rolled into one, they are also completely their own thing.  They don’t hide their influences but are good enough to use them to create amazing music of their own.  I spent ages trying to pin down who vocalist Ben Todd sounded like, part Ian McCulloch or Bernard Sumner, but fragile like an acoustic Neil Young or even Nick Drake.  In a world of parkas, Ben’s understated vocal melodies stick out in the best possible way.  Add to that the sublime guitars from Steve Murphy which are full of melody and flair, the rhythm section of Si Edney and Al Borg keeping it fluid and Luke Adam’s dexterous flourishes on the keys.  Comparisons with bands such as The Cure, Echo & The Bunnymen, House of Love are fair, however Murphy’s guitar playing is more Johnny Marr at his best pinning the tracks together without going over the top, able to make you drift away and lift your spirits.  How lucky you will be to be delve into this collection of fine tunes for the very first time – to listen to them – and fall head over heels in love with them.  I guarantee you will be asking as I did – where have they been all my life?” – Michael Tanner/therebirthofcool

“Beautiful music is indeed their game. The great thing about Moonlight Parade is how they replicate the sounds of some of indie rock’s big hitters – without it ever devolving into pastiche.  Their music recalls The Smiths, Suede and Teenage Fanclub.” – Louder Than War

“For anyone awaiting a collision of Doves, New Order and the Stone Roses, with a heavy dose of 80s Creation Records, then Moonlight Parade, who go about their business with an ease of purpose, their music emanating unforced sweetness and a certain nostalgic longing, just might be the ticket. The appeal lies in the way frontman Ben Todd’s plaintive vocals are balanced with unforced, effusive guitar pop.” – The Arts Desk
