Redbird Droppings: Blocked
Not much in the headlines right now for the Cardinals; just more drama in the Nolan Arenado saga. There are also a few rumors around Paul Goldschmidt. And some former Cardinals are on the move.

As Cardinal fans, this might have been the most boring Winter Meetings we’ve ever seen. No signings, no trades, no Rule V picks. Just rumors of Arenado being shopped. At least we pick 5th in the draft…

Day 2 of the Winter Meetings was a little more active for the Cardinals, but it’s mostly from the rumor standpoint; a few more Arenado tidbits came out & the Cardinals were tied to a surprise player. We also learned the Cards will have the 5th pick in the ’25 Draft.

The Cardinals are talking with their players with no trade clauses about the next season. Plus other trade candidates, minor transactions, and some former Cardinals in the news.

The Cardinals had their post-2024 season press conference, and it was one fans were waiting to hear since rumors of changes were coming. We got a lot of info that tells us nothing of what’s changing.

As we close into the deadline (5:00PM CST today), we’re getting a lot more on the rumor front; not like a few years ago when Juan Soto was on the market, but some lesser names this year.

I’m continuing to look at players that the Cardinals could be interested in based off the rumors that are out there. Part 1 featured Zack Eflin, Erick Fedde, Luis Robert Jr., Brent Rooker, Bryan De La Cruz, Randal Grichuk, Tommy Pham, Mark Canha, Connor Joe, and Kevin Pillar. This time I’ll focus on 5 more trades.

Now that we are just over halfway through the season, it’s a good time to review the overall team numbers and see where they can improve before the trade deadline.

Redbird Droppings reviews the 2024 Cardinals’ performance compared to the first 40 games of ’23, noting marginal improvements in records & pitching but a significant decline in offensive output.

With almost a week left of spring training, we look at Tommy Edman’s IL stint, the impact this has on Dylan Carlson, and why a little more pitching depth might not be a bad thing for the team.

A look at my top 50 Cardinal prospects.
