The trade deadline is Monday, August 3rd, and I expect the Cardinals to be active. I'm hoping as sellers because this team is close, but they won't compete in the post season with how the roster is currently constructed.
I think it's safe to say no one saw the Cardinals being 7 games over .500 and a wild card contender coming to the halfway point of the season. It's been a fun season so far and it's the type of baseball Cardinals fans have missed the last few years. That said, there are some major issue with this team and a few moves to fix them.
We got 2 weeks of #Cardinals News and rumors to catch up on. I won't go into Sonny Gray (as that's already been covered on the site) but there have been other happenings with the team. #stlcards #forthelou #mlb #baseball #hotstove #rumors #news #transactions
Besides the normal chatter in #baseball, today is the non-tender deadline; teams will decide if they'll offer contracts to their players under club control. #stlcards #cardinals #forthelou #mlb #hotstove
A busy deadline eve had transitions into an even busier deadline. The #Cardinals completed their trades with the #Mets (Ryan Helsley for 3 prospects) & Red Sox (Steven Matz for Blaze Jordan), but they still have a few guys out on the market. #stlcards #forthelou #mlb #baseball #tradedeadline #rumors
Last time I looked at what the #Cardinals should do; now we look at what's starting to happened, at least rumored to happen. Everything here came out over the last 5 days or so; older rumors are so out of date or over-reported that I'm not going to include them. #stlcards #forthelou #mlb #baseball #tradedeadline #rumors
With a little under a week until the MLB trade deadline (7/31, 5p CST), many are still wondering if the #Cardinals are going to be buyers or sellers. #sltcards #forthelou #mlb #baseball #tradedeadline
Every year, there are a slew of former Cardinals in spring training camps across baseball; this year, there are 65. I've broken them out by team; I've also noted the highest level that Cardinal farm-hands made it.
The Cardinals quiet off-season had the tiniest of news yesterday as the team acquired a utility player in trade; scouting report in the link. They also are talking w/ Boston again about Arenado. Plus a couple of minor league roster moves & some former Cards join new teams.
The Cardinals need to listen to that old saying...shit or get off the pot. We're a couple of weeks away from Spring Training and nothing has really changed; Arenado is still on the team, they haven't really cut payroll, & there are quite a few young guys blocked from everyday jobs.
