Editor’s Picks

Marvel Pick of the Week: Star Wars: Rogue One – Darth Vader #1

Marvel revisits one of the most memorable periods in Star Wars history, spotlighting Vader’s hunt in the aftermath of Rogue One. A strong jumping-on point for both Star Wars and Marvel readers.

CELEBRATING TEN YEARS OF ROGUE ONE! WHEN NEGOTIATIONS FAIL, THE EMPIRE SENDS IN ITS ATTACK DOG — DARTH VADER! Director Orson Krennic’s negotiations with the gem-rich planet of Harreld have hit a standstill. Its leader, Harqque, refuses to allow the Empire to mine its rare kyber deposits for use in the Death Star’s deadly super laser. But when the Emperor catches wind of Krennic’s failure, he sends his most trusted acolyte — Darth Vader — to ply the kyber from Harqque by any means necessary.

DC Pick of the Week: DC All In Saga: Darkseid vs the World #1

DC’s All In initiative takes center stage with a special spotlight on Darkseid, one of the publisher’s most iconic villains. As DC continues to build the mythology surrounding the All In era, this issue looks poised to be an important chapter for readers following the broader direction of the DC Universe. It also serves as a strong entry point for anyone interested in the cosmic side of DC storytelling.

SCOTT SNYDER, JOSHUA WILLIAMSON, SANFORD GREENE AND YASMINE PUTRI TELL THE UNFORGETTABLE STORY OF DARKSEID’S PAST, PRESENT, AND FUTURE!

Darkseid is… only just the beginning.

The ultimate anti-life in the universe has been at the heart of the DC All In Saga since its beginning… and while the King Omega battle has been won by the forces of good, the war against Darkseid has only just begun! Comics superstars Scott Snyder and Sanford Greene present the hidden past of the being called Uxus , his descent into Darkseid, and his plans for the fate of all creation! It’s DC’s premier villain as you’ve never seen him before, by the biggest names in comics, in DC All In Saga: Darkseid vs. the World!

Image Comics Pick of the Week: Universal Monsters: Bride of Frankenstein Lives #1

Kelly Thompson and Mattia De Iulis bring the Bride center stage in a new horror series that looks poised to become one of Image’s biggest books of the season.

HERE COMES THE BRIDE…

Kelly Thompson and Mattia De Iulis (Absolute Wonder Woman, The Cull) reunite once again to deliver the most haunting new horror series of the year. Born in the heart of a thunderstorm, made of stolen flesh, electricity, and monstrous desperation, The Bride lives!

With no memory of her past or understanding of what she is, The Bride took her first steps into the world and was…displeased. Now, she must discover where and who she came from and begin what every living thing begins…the process of staying alive.

Dark Horse Pick of the Week: Minor Threats: Welcome to Twilight – Villains and Vignettes #1

The acclaimed Minor Threats universe expands with a collection of stories focused on Twilight City’s villains.

Twilight City may be home to the Minor Threats, but its streets, alleys and gutters are littered with stories of deadbeat heroes, desperate villains and fallen monsters. The beloved anthology returns with brand new twisted tales from some of the biggest names in comics.

In the first issue Mark Waid (Justice League Unlimited, Kingdom Come) and Scott Kolins (Flash, Patra) tell a horrific story of superpowers, fanaticism and manosphere supplements.

Next Minor Threats co-writers Patton Oswalt and Jordan Blum team up with Mike Mignola!!! (Hellboy) himself to reveal the tragic origins of the dead Kaiju many citizens of Redport call home.

Finally Minor Threats co-creator Scott Hepburn writes a story with art by Cary Nord (Conan the Barbarian) that travels back to Frankie Follis’ past to uncover the true moment Playtime was born.

And that’s just issue 1!

Indie Pick of the Week: Palestine #1

One of the week’s most notable non-superhero releases, arriving from Fantagraphics Books.

Sacco spent two months during the winter of 1991-92 living in Jerusalem and visiting the West Bank and the Gaza Strip to see for himself what life was like for Palestinians under the Israeli occupation. In this volume, he details his encounters, discussions and interviews with a wide range of West Bank personalities: Arab shopkeepers, refugees from 1948, rock-throwing Palestinian teenagers, teachers, intellectuals, former prisoners, Israeli soldiers, members of the peace movement, American Jews and some terrorists as well. Like other rights investigators, he documents some of the better known abuses-arbitrary beatings by the IDF, administrative detention (arrest without charges), house demolitions and appalling prison conditions-especially at the notorious Ansar III prison.
