SAUDADE Releases the “moody and haunting” “Chill of Death”
Featuring Vocals by A.A. Williams and Lee “Scratch” Perry
Led By Chuck Doom and Gil Sharone, Track Also Features
Dr. Know, John Medeski, David Torn
FEBRUARY 18, 2022 (New York NY) — Following their cover of the Joy Division classic “Day of the Lords” which Consequence.com called a “creepy rendition of an already haunting song,” SAUDADE has unleashed its latest track “Chill of Death” which Loudwire calls “moody and haunting.” With vocals helmed by U.K.’s rising new artist A.A. Williams and the late Lee “Scratch” Perry, the dark and deeply atmospheric track is the latest from the band led by Chuck Doom (Crosses, Team Sleep, Palms) and drummer Gil Sharone (Team Sleep, Marilyn Manson, Dillinger Escape Plan), and featuring a rotating list of vocalists and musicians.

“I was delighted when Chuck approached me to work with the Saudade collective on ‘Chill Of Death’,” says Williams of the collaboration. “The group’s wide-ranging musical style really excited me and I was honored that they’d asked me to collaborate. Later finding out that the late Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry would also be contributing made the process even more special.”

Adds Doom, “I was stoked A.A. replied that the song felt right and agreed to collaborate. Her beautifully organic lyrical and melodic interpretation paired with the legend Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry, Dr. Know, John Medeski, David Torn and Gil make this song truly special to us. Saudade is excited to share the results of this collaboration.”
“Like all of the other tracks we do, this song came together in a very organic way,” says Sharone. “The grooves, dynamics and textures of sounds created a perfect bed for the amazing vocal performance that A. A. Williams put down.”
Feverishly working on new material to unveil throughout 2022 and beyond, Saudade has made quite a mark on the music world. Originally envisioned as an instrumental outfit, Saudade has since incorporated vocals and has explored genres as far ranging as dub, reggae, metal and trance all cut from the same cohesive fabric. After being featured on the aforementioned Joy Division cover, Randy Blythe (Lamb of God) joined the band as a contributing member and will be featured more frequently on upcoming material.
An independent musical and artistic entity, which is not to be confused as supergroup or side project, Saudade is a band whose rotating membership is held together by the nucleus of Doom and Sharone. Among the frequent members are David Torn (David Bowie, Madonna), Dr. Know (Bad Brains), Mackie Jayson (Cro-Mags, Madball), John Medeski (Medeski Martin and Wood), and Robert Thomas Jr. (Weather Report) and Alain Johannes (Queens of the Stone Age, Eleven, PJ Harvey). The late Lee “Scratch” Perry has also contributed to Saudade and whose presence will be sorely missed. RIZZ (VOWWS) also contributes to Saudade imaging and video direction.
“Chill of Death” is released today and was produced by Chuck Doom. It was recorded at Station House Studio (Echo Park, CA) and Applehead Studios (Woodstock, NY). A.A. Williams’ vocals were recorded in London, UK and Lee “Scratch” Perry’s vocals in Negril, Jamaica. The track is now available on THolyGhost Recordings at https://hypeddit.com/saudade/chillofdeath
