Since the 2023 trade deadline, the St. Louis Cardinals have shifted strategy by trading veteran players for prospects. Driven by management changes aimed at rebuilding the farm system, these transactions targeted long-term depth rather than immediate major league impact. How have they worked out?
The trade deadline is Monday, August 3rd, and I expect the Cardinals to be active. I'm hoping as sellers because this team is close, but they won't compete in the post season with how the roster is currently constructed.
The Cardinals announced their selections for MiLB Pitcher and co-Player of the Month for April, with Peoria (A+) RHSP Yhoiker Fajardo, Memphis (AAA) IF Blaze Jordan, and Palm Beach (A) IF Jack Gurevitch receiving the honors.
The Cardinals announced that the team has reduced its Spring Training roster to 35 players with RHP Richard Fitts being optioned to Memphis (AAA). The move pretty much sets the rotation.
The Cardinals announced that they have signed 29 of their pre-arbitration service time players to contracts for the '26 season & that SS Masyn Winn has opted to have his contract renewed. The team now has all players on its 40-player MLB roster under contract for the season.
The #Cardinals are starting the rebuild, having agreed to send starter Sonny Gray and cash to the Boston #RedSox for LHP Brandon Clarke & RHP Richard Fitts. Scouting reports for Clarke and Fitts in the link. #stlcard #forthelou #mlb #baseball #hotstove #trade
