The Follow-Up To Debut Release “Death of Creation”

Written and recorded in singer Greta Janssen’s apartment, “Carpe Diem” captures the urgency of self-belief, artistic freedom, and refusing complacency. The track features Greta Janssen on vocals, Nate Ascending on guitar and vocals, Owen Michael Guercio on drums, and production and synth work from Tom Saint.

Blending raw rock energy with hip-hop influence, punk spirit, and cinematic visuals, the accompanying video channels the LA skate culture, DIY rebellion, and the duo’s unapologetic creative ethos.

Nate shares, “‘Carpe Diem’ is about embodying the life you want and taking action instead of waiting for things to change. As an artist, it’s important to stay motivated for the love of it, especially when there are so many ways you often have to fail first before things start to catch. You have to fight for it and need resilience.”

Greta adds, “‘Carpe Diem’ is about radical self-belief and agency. Your life will be exactly what you make it, and no one can do that for you. There’s nothing I can stand less than a victim complex. I’ve been called abrasive before because of my unapologetic approach to life and not feeling the need to soften my edges to make myself more digestible to others. Instead, I lean heavily into my values, my self-defined moral code, and allow that to be my beacon.”

She continues, “We decided to film the music video at the skate park because Nate and his friends had been practically living there. We are proud of LA’s skate culture, being the city where skating originated. We were going for a late 90s, early 2000s MTV vibe and I think we nailed it. In typical Death Valley fashion, we had to, of course, set some shit on fire.”

Death Valley Dream Cult are currently building toward the release of their debut EP later in 2026. Comprised of Greta Janssen and Nate Ascending and a revolving artistic collective, the LA-based duo fuse rock, punk, hip-hop, and alternative influences into a sound rooted in authenticity and rebellion while forging a sound designed for a generation navigating disillusionment, reinvention, and creative freedom.

Their debut single, “Death of Creation,” introduced the band’s core philosophy through the mantra: “Complacency is the death of creation.” “Carpe Diem” pushes that mission further, louder, sharper, and without compromise.
