LOS YESTERDAYS RELEASE POWERFUL SPOKEN WORD VIDEO “GOD IS WATCHING”
A Stirring Call to Conscience From One of L.A.’s Most Soulful Voices
Los Angeles, CA – Acclaimed Chicano soul band Los Yesterdays has released a powerful new spoken word piece titled “God Is Watching” — a raw, unflinching statement that denounces the systemic cruelty of ICE, the Trump administration’s mass deportations, and the ongoing violation of immigrant rights across the U.S.

Delivered by frontman Bad Vic Benavides, with the music composed by Los Yesterdays co-founder and partner, Gabriel Rowland, and edited by David Brocca, the video is both a prayer and a protest, a call to awaken the nation’s moral conscience. Known for their timeless blend of sweet soul, R&B, and storytelling, Los Yesterdays step forward with an urgent message rooted in the same L.A. neighborhoods that shaped their music.

Benavides shares, “Los Yesterdays are deeply troubled and saddened by what is currently happening in our country. This land has always been the home of Latinos & indigenous peoples. We are not a political band, but we cannot sit idly by while people are being discriminated against, brutalized, and tortured.
“All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.
“We choose to voice our opposition through our art to the current tyranny being imposed in hopes that our message will touch the hearts & minds of those who have forgotten their humanity. To open the eyes of those who are blind to the suffering of their fellow man or, at the very least, to call attention to the violation of Constitutional rights and the Federal & State laws of the United States of America. May God have mercy on those in violation of his commandments. God Is Watching.”

Los Yesterdays is a multicultural band led by Gabriel Rowland and Victor Benavides, and features Sarah Corza on Bass, Clarence Matheney on keys, and Melanie Media on guitar. They emerged from garage studio sessions into a beloved voice of modern Chicano soul.
Their breakout hits like “Nobody’s Clown” and “Love Is A Game For Fools” pay homage to the sweet soul music of the ’60s–’80s while channeling the lived experience of growing up in mixed-race communities shaped by hardship, resilience, and cultural exchange.
In an era where political silence is complicity, “God Is Watching” is an unvarnished act of resistance — a powerful reminder that the soul of Los Angeles, and this country, cannot be separated from the fight for justice.
