Cardinals Trim 10 Players From Spring Roster
58 Players Remain in Major League Camp
JUPITER, Fla., March 5, 2024 – The St. Louis Cardinals announced the team has reduced its Spring Training roster to 58 players today, with 10 players being re-assigned to minor league camp.
The team re-assigned non-roster pitchers Andre Granillo, Tink Hence, Packy Naughton, Max Rajcic, Victor Santos, and Logan Sawyer, catchers Leonardo Bernal, Sammy Hernandez, and Carlos Linarez, and outfielder Moises Gomez to minor league camp.

No surprises here, as all of the pitchers didn’t have roles with the team for 2024. Naughton might have been the only exception, as he’s had MLB experience in the past and might be one of the first guys promoted if there is an injury in the bullpen.
Hence is still a big time prospect; he needs more time at Double A before he’s ready for the big leagues. Rajcic is another decent prospect and is still a bit away from the Majors.
With pitcher depth decreasing, the need for catchers goes down; none of the 3 sent out will be in the Majors this year, if at all.
Gomez is an interesting case; he was the talk of the system 2 years ago, but lack of progress and struggles making contact have killed his value. Since he was removed from the 40-man, it shouldn’t be surprising that he was one of the first guys out; at the same time, the team needs a little outfield depth with Tommy Edman out and it couldn’t hurt to see what he had a little bit longer.
