The Cardinals have $6,262,600 to spend this year in the international market. In the past, the Cardinals have not spent all of their allotment and have traded parts to other teams for marginal prospects; many times, these kids don’t develop as a team hopes and the marginal prospects some times can surprise you, like Lane Thomas.
That said, this year the Cardinals are investing more in the international market. Mejia was the 14th ranked prospect on the market and Rodriguez was 26th. Last years top signee (Adari Grant) was ranked 46th. They also signed Cho, who was considered the best prospect in Korea this period, and one of the best to come out of the country in the last few years.
There hasn’t been word yet on the bonus amounts, but I’ll throw them on the Transaction Tracker as they happen.
