JULIA BHATT Shares Effervescent Nu-Disco Banger “Hair Salon Vibes”

“It seems salons are having a moment. Lorde is getting stoned while getting her nails done, and Julia Bhatt makes you dance while you book your next blowout. For those who know her from her previous singles, “Hair Salon Vibes” is an enjoyable departure, like a weekend in South Beach – or an afternoon spent at your favorite salon. At the end of the song, one feels refreshed, like they just ducked in for a quick clean up before a night out on the town.”- Hollywood Life
“Bhatt is quickly finding herself in the conversation of alt-pop’s surging artists, a genre that continues to dominate playlists. Bhatt’s edge is in her rhythmic tracks, which are dance-inducing, borrowing for sure from the dance-crazed culture of her hometown of Miami—a wonderful tinge.”– Earmilk
“Julia Bhatt is already reinventing, showing new angles to her burgeoning indie-inflected style. Clocking in at only 1:30, the track [“1:30′] wastes no time introducing itself with heady layers of synths and effects-laden vocals. Bhatt’s moody delivery sets a subdued mood, relying on percussive rhythms to add a darker edge to the track.” – Under The Radar
“The real magic [of “Bird Girl”] starts as soon as Julia delivers her well-crafted lines, that are brought forth with an exuberant urgency that makes us smile and dance at the same time.” – Pancakes and Whiskey
“The singer-songwriter exudes an energy that refuses to go unnoticed.” –Miami New Times
“[Julia Bhatt] incorporates a wide variety of influences, from The Strokes to Fela Kuti.” – FLOOD
“On her way to making a name for herself on the charts!” – Culture Collide
“The dreamy, upbeat melodies of “1:30” invite you to contemplate our external reality and question the effects of unknown digital presences.” – Haloscope
“[‘Bird Girl’ is] seriously, a mega-bop – Brightest Young Things

AUGUST 13, 2021 (Miami, FL) — Genre-jumping Miami-based indie artist Julia Bhatt today released a lively and colorful synth led electro-pop jam, “Hair Salon Vibes,” that comes swooping in right on time for sweltering summer late-night drives. A fresh showcase of her Gen-Z genre-fluid talent, “Hair Salon Vibes” challenged her to essentially work on the song herself as her mentor and producer Elliot Jacobson (Ingrid Michaelson, Elle King, Vérité) was in NYC and she was stuck in Miami. With the pandemic preventing a jam session between the two, she explored songwriting on her own using Ableton software which opened up a whole new creative outlet for her. The single premieres via Hollywood Life, read the article HERE.
“Hair Salon Vibes” got its name because she initially started with a single beat/progression on the piano and all she could think of is the typical clubby music they play at hair salons. “I love experimenting with different styles of music,” she explains. “I experimented with [2019 single] ‘Marco’ and that’s probably my most listened-to song. It’s just a fun song and the lyrics aren’t as intense as normal but there’s still meaning there.

The second single that continues Bhatt’s new sound exploration that challenges her into new song structures and genres, “Hair Salon Vibes” infuses more modern pop elements into her discography (her first experiment was the February 2021 track “1:30” which showcased her witty personality, fast-paced wordsmithing, and disgust for social media hierarchy within the music industry).
Since Bhatt was raised on a stimulating and expansive musical diet listening to everything from classic rock, American songbook standards and bossa nova beats, this exploration into using more modern sounds is a whole new undertaking for her. Writing engaging, fun hooks with great beats, she juxtaposes her honest storytelling that reflects observations about teenage life in the melting pot of Miami with deeply introspective lyrics on her on-going struggles with mental health. As Haloscope lauds, “Bhatt’s music does an exemplary job of capturing that teenage tendency of feeling like the whole world is against you, but there for you at the same time.”

Bhatt released her debut single “Tall” in October 2019, her second single “Marco” followed that November and in January 2020 she released a groovy single “I’m Cool.” She graduated high school that February and announced her first ever tour at the beginning of March 2020, just before everything came to a sudden halt due to COVID restrictions. Not letting the pandemic stop her, she released her fourth single “Miami” (an ode to her hometown) at the end of March, and in September, in tandem with the announcement of her debut EP 2 steps back, she released the animated video to a new stand-alone single “Bird Girl.” Her debut EP 2 steps back was released that October and it features a collection of four tracks, three of which were previously stand-alone singles that signaled Julia as a critically-hailed, buzzworthy artist, as well as a brand-new unreleased tune, “Vampires Suck.”
