Ocarina Of Time was HEAVILY rumored for the past couple of months, to the point that we all basically knew it was coming. In my opinion (And I will write an article about this) this spoiled the surprise and I think that the direct was unfairly panned because of this. This announcement would have made the direct ten times better. Instead it was just another add on. That being said, it is still a good announcement.
As you can see there is a bit of a disparity between the amount third parties and first parties (32 vs 13, only 9 of which are new games) This has left some people a little sour and to some extent I agree however, their is one thing more to mention, and it’s a biggun’
That’s right we finally have an actual trailer for Kingdom Hearts 4 and this has left the community torn. On the one hand you have people who believe that this is essentially the second coming in video game form and then, on the other you have people who either don’t understand or simply believe that this and OOT were not enough to hinge an entire direct on. Personally I would have watched an hour long Kingdom Hearts Four trailer, so you can guess what side I’m on.
To play devils advocate for a second though, to someone not into Kingdom Hearts, it is a bit odd that KH4 got more time than (what seems to be) a ground up remake of OOT. This point is valid, but I believe that they both had enough time as Nintendo doesn’t like to show us much until they are absolutely ready. I believe the simple don’t want us to know much yet whereas KH fans have been clamoring for so much as a Metroid Prime 4 style logo reveal.
Putting my KH4 biases aside (which makes me want to rate it 1000/10) I think it was a pretty solid direct. We got a decent amount of things, even if most of them were third parties. There were a few good switch 2 games announced and we got to big bombshells. So personally I’d give it an 8/10.
