26-Song Jesse Malin Tribute Album Vol. 1 Set for September 11

Wicked Cool Records is releasing a 26-song tribute album titled Friends Of Jesse Malin: I Would Do It For You – Vol. 1 on September 11. Produced by Lyle Hysen, the compilation features various alternative and rock artists covering Malin’s songs across digital, double-CD, and vinyl formats.

The collection celebrates the career of the New York singer-songwriter and former D Generation frontman following his recovery from a 2023 spinal stroke. A planned second volume will feature more contributors, reflecting Malin’s extended legacy as a performer, playwright, and author within the music community.

FRIENDS OF JESSE MALIN: I WOULD DO IT FOR YOU – VOL. 1 is arriving September 11 via Wicked Cool Records, a monumental 26-song tribute that brings together an extraordinary cross-section of Malin’s friends, collaborators, and musical community.

A 26-Song Celebration of Jesse Malin

New York’s Jesse Malin steps into the spotlight with a two-volume tribute project that began as a single collection and expanded into something much bigger. The release, produced by Lyle Hysen, features contributions from Gogol Bordello, Dead Milkmen, Bebe Buell, Sami Yaffa, Valley Lodge, Trapper Schoepp, James Maddock, Cat Popper & Sasha Dobson, Danny Sage, Prima Donna, and many more. Notably, the album marks the return of influential New York alternative rock band Das Damen, whose version of “Don’t Let Them Take You Down (Beautiful Day!)” is the band’s first newly released recording in 35 years.

Highlight Tracks and Beneficial Connections

One focus track, Prima Donna’s “Everybody Wants To Rock And Roll,” serves as a high-energy centerpiece for the release week. For Prima Donna frontman Kevin Preston, the connection to Malin runs deep; Preston has cited seeing Green Day with Malin’s D Generation opening as formative, and he later joined Malin onstage in Los Angeles to perform the same track.

The collaboration between Malin and his friends across punk, glam, power pop, and rock showcases the breadth of his influence. The album’s two-volume format allows artists from various scenes to contribute, illustrating how Malin’s music and community have traveled far and wide.

A second volume is planned, with Thurston Moore, Willie Nile, and many more among the artists set to appear.

About Jesse Malin

Hailed by Rolling Stone as “a gritty troubadour of the streets,” Jesse Malin first made his mark fronting New York punk band D Generation before launching a solo career with 2003’s The Fine Art Of Self Destruction. Across eight solo albums, Malin has carried the spirit of New York rock ’n’ roll forward while building a community that reaches well beyond any one scene. His songs have been covered by Bruce Springsteen, Lucinda Williams, Green Day, Elvis Costello, Bleachers, Counting Crows, and others.

In 2023, Malin suffered a rare spinal stroke that left him paralyzed from the waist down, but he has since returned to the stage, including two sold-out Beacon Theatre shows and his Off-Broadway show Silver Manhattan. In 2026, Malin made his Off-Broadway debut with Silver Manhattan, written by Malin and Lauren Ludwig, produced by ArKtype and David Bason, and nominated for a 2026 Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Book of a Musical. His first book, Almost Grown: A New York Memoir, is out now via Akashic Books.
