JUPITER, Fla., March 18, 2026 – The St. Louis Cardinals announced today that the team has reduced its Spring Training roster to 35 players with right-handed pitcher Richard Fitts being optioned to Memphis (AAA).
Fitts, 26, made three starts in Grapefruit League play this spring, posting a 2-1 mark while striking out nine over his 9.1 innings of work.
The Cardinals currently have 28 major league roster players and seven non-roster invitees in Major League camp.

With Fitts headed to Memphis, the Cardinals rotation is pretty much set: Matthew Liberatore, Dustin May, Kyle Leahy, Andre Pallante, and Michael McGreevy. Liberatore has been announced as the opening day starter.
Fitts has stuff to work on at Memphis; he owns a 5.79 ERA and 1.29 WHIP this spring, so he could use a little work limiting baserunners. The plus side was 9 strikeouts in 9.1 innings.
He’ll probably be the first guy called up in case of injury or any current rotation pitcher struggling (at least one of the back 3 guys).
Prospects still in camp (2): JJ Wetherholt (NRI – #1), Nathan Church (#26)
Prospects sent down (14): Jurrangelo Cijntje (NRI – #4), Joshua Baez (#5), Quinn Mathews (NRI – #6), Jimmy Crooks (#7), Leonardo Bernal (#9), Tink Hence (#10), Ixan Henderson (NRI – #17), Blaze Jordan (NRI – #24), Hancel Rincon (NRI – #28), Luis Gastelum (NRI – #29), Chase Davis (NRI – #30), Pete Hansen (NRI – #33), Max Rajcic (NRI – #44), Matt Koperniak (NRI – #50).
