JUPITER, Fla., March 8, 2024 – The St. Louis Cardinals announced today that the team has reduced its Spring Training roster to 56 players, optioning right-handed pitcher Adam Kloffenstein to the Memphis (AAA) roster and re-assigning non-roster pitcher Cooper Hjerpe to minor league camp.
The team currently has 39 Major League roster players and 17 non-roster invitees remaining in its Major League camp.

Just like Tink Hence and Max Rajcic, these demotions are expected and don’t mean anything in the long run.
Kloffenstein needs some time at Memphis and could be a spot starter in the second half of the season. He’s the first 40-man player sent to minor league camp; it doesn’t mean anything really, just an observation.
Hjerpe has a little longer to go; he’s still a decent prospect and has upside. He’ll probably spend most of this season at Springfield and could be an option later next season (if they need him this season, things will be going worse than they did last year).
Expect a few more cuts by Monday.
