JMS’s Cap run continues as they are halfway through the first arc. The Immortal Thor introduces the Thor Corps. The new Punisher book has a new title character and an interesting dynamic. Star Wars: Bounty Hunters continues the Dark Droid crossover (check out the reading order here). Spider-Gwen follows her adventures on Earth-65 and introduces different versions of familiar characters.

No legacy comics, but they did drop an early book:

Here are last week’s quick hit reviews. Please note, Marvel added more books from 12/06/2023 after I wrote last week’s column. The 2 below were part of that.

• Sentry #1: An interesting premise; the Sentry’s powers are divided up between a few “regular people” and go off when they activate. It leads to a Highlander, “there can be only one” scenario at the end of the issue. While I liked that, I didn’t like how Misty Knight came off; I’m not super familiar with the character, but I know enough to see the compassion missing from this version of the character. I’m down for this book. B+.
• Thunderbolts #1: They’ve taken the Thunderbolts comic to be more in line with what they are going to do in the movie. In this case, the Winter Soldier starts recruiting shadow heroes of the 616 to take down villains that should have been taken out a long time ago. Val is here, albeit not how we remember her from the comics or the MCU. White Widow/Yelena is mentioned. Red Guardians is brought in. Sharon Carter, AKA the Destroyer, is the “wild card” here from what we’ll be seeing in the theaters in a few years. It’s a good starting point; solid B.
