MARCH 17, 2023 (Los Angeles, CA) — “I think I had found inspiration for this one with the most recent former President during his term. But like a bad dream, I’ve done my best to forget about it,” says vocalist/guitarist Noah Green of Los Angeles power-pop band THE PRETTY FLOWERS about their fantastic new single “Baby Food.” Harkening college rock of yore while still maintaining a firm grasp of indie rock’s continuing power and fury, “Baby Food” is the first taste of their upcoming album A Company Sleeve, slated for release in September via Double Helix Records (Survival Guide, Useless ID, NEAR BEER).
“’Baby Food’ was in the first batch of songs we wrote for what turned into the A Company Sleeve album and it’s been a staple of our live set since,” explains Noah. “Lyrically, it touches on feeling overwhelmed with everyday life and the anxiety that comes with thinking about our perceived control over it. It’s asking the same questions that our parents and everyone who came before us also asked, but still not having any answers or assurances of anything. Musically, it could suggest the relentless speed of time and life’s ebbs and flows.”

The accompanying animated video, which premieres on SPILL Magazine, is a mixed media (and literal) tour de force, complete with bikes, dogs and a paper route, ending in the obligatory concert.
“When Noah and I were drumming up video concepts, he offhandedly mentioned an animated video and a Christmas light in my head went off,” remembers drummer Sean Johnson. “I reached out to [animator] Nathan Sonenfeld, who I’ve known for over 20 years, and asked if it’s something he’d be into. He is a drummer also and now a budding animator with his partner Se’Belle.
“They took to the idea and came up with a really great concept that matched Noah’s lyrics. It’s this great stew of textures and styles both old and new that I feel is really unique and special. We certainly have never done anything like this before and I think I speak for the whole band when I say we love it and we hope everyone else does.”
Rounded out by Jake Gideon (guitar/vocals) and Sam Tiger (bass/vocals), the LA-based fourpiece will be hitting the road with Berlin, Germany’s The Roxies for a handful of West Coast dates. “With any tour, I just want new people coming out to the shows taking us home with them,” says Sean. “It’s hard to get people’s attention these days, so we’re hoping with a great live show and these great new songs, we can continue to build a fan base. That’s the best you can hope for. That, and eating good food and drinking better coffee…”

Influenced by the loud guitar indie and college rock of The Replacements, Guided By Voices, The Teardrop Explodes, Echo & the Bunnymen and Superchunk, among others, The Pretty Flowers have previously released one album of original material, Why Trains Crash, plus a handful of singles and a covers collection, Golden Beat Sessions, while keeping their gear well-worn with numerous West Coast tours. Their songs have been featured on two seasons of Showtime’s Shameless, season 2 of the CW’s Nancy Drew, Peacock TV’s The Resort, and most recently Syfy’s Resident Alien.
The Pretty Flowers’ “Baby Food” is released today, Friday, March 17, 2023 and their upcoming album A Company Sleeve was produced by the band’s own Jake Gideon and engineered by Adam Lasus (Lily’s, Yo La Tengo, Madder Rose, Helium) at Studio Red. Mastering was done by Matthew Barnhart (Superchunk, Bob Mould, METZ) and will be released in September 2023 through Double Helix Records.
