On my recent vacation to Florida, I decided to pass on the staple from the beer stores, Parish Brewing’s Ghost in the Machine; instead I grabbed their Dr. Juice Hazy IPA. Was the deviation worth it?
Brewery: Parish Brewing Co (Broussard, LA)
Beer: Dr. Juice
Style: IPA – New England/Hazy
ABV: 6.00%
IBU: TBD
Brewery Description: The Doctor is in. Introducing your new go-to IPA, Dr. Juice is a highly crushable juice bomb. Dry hopped with a blend of our favorite hand selected hops from the Yakima Valley, Dr. Juice’s drinkability is sneaky good considering it clocks in at 6% ABV. The pour glows a rich cantaloupe hue with a thick, frosted haze and soft mouthfeel. Aroma and taste is full of passion fruit, papaya, and blood orange, making it drink like a glass of freshly squeezed juice.
Appearance: Pours a yellowish/orange color; mild haziness with some particulates. 2 fingers of off-white, fluffy head with mild retention and good lacing.
Aroma: Smells fruity – citrus, melon, and tropical fruits. Hints of pine, herbs, and malt.
Taste: Lots of juicy fruits – again citrus, melon, and tropical fruits with hints of pineapple. It balances nicely with the maltiness. There is some bitterness, but it’s light and not overpowering.
Mouthfeel: The mild carbonation leads to a nice mouthfeel. For a hazy, it’s definitely a medium body and doesn’t make you feel full. Finishes very clean.
Overall: It’s a step down from Ghost in the Machine, but still a very good beer. This is something that would be easy to knock back a 6 pack of and is pretty affordable for a hazy.
Rating: 4.25 out of 5.
