In my quest to try as many New England and Milkshake IPAs before brewing my own, I heard about Maplewood Brewery and their amazing IPAs.
ABV: 6.30%
IBU: “Low”
Style: New England IPA
Brewery Description: Bursting with notes of tropical fruit, Son of Juice features loads of Mosaic, Simcoe, and Nugget hops. Pilsner malt and oats lend to a soft body and touch of haze, making for a juicy, low-bitter IPA.
I purchased a 4 pack of cans and poured it into a standard pint glass.
Appearance: Pours a pale orange with a good bit of haze. It left a fingers worth of head, good retention with good lacing.
Smell: The citrus is very up front, with large orange and lemon smells. You can tell there is a good amount of aroma hops added to this. There is also a little pineapple in the aroma.
Taste: This is a total juice bomb. The orange is front and center. You also get hints of grapefruit and biscuit malts. There is little bitterness for an IPA.
Mouth: The mouthfeel is light to medium without that IPA kick at the end. It’s almost a dry finish, but with the juice feel to it. The carbonation is perfect balanced.
Overall: This is a new regular rotation beer when I see it. They are right there with Narrow Gauge on NE/Hazy IPAs. I was able to pick up Juice Pants as well and it was just as good. Rating: 5.00 out of 5.
The Beer Advocate score is 4.10 and it’s rated #5,042. Untappd has it as 4.04 with over 23,000 ratings.
