GOGOL BORDELLO Stuns at Riot Fest…Announces New Video “Fire On Ice Floe”…Adds Philly/NYC Holiday Shows!

“For over twenty years, Eugene and the rest of Gogol Bordello have followed their namesake, Nikolai Gogol, and “smuggled” Ukrainian culture into mainstream culture the way Nikolai “smuggled” Ukrainian culture into Russian society” – Hollywood Life
“There’s the excitement of so many unique players swinging in and out of musical view like pirates whipping the ship within inches of its capsize but only by the strength of the songs does it keep from tipping over.” – Producer Walter Schreifels (Gorilla Biscuits, Quicksand, Rival Schools)

SEPTEMBER 21, 2022 (New York, NY) — Chicago’s annual alternative music festival RIOT FEST got quite the last-minute jolt of attention this past weekend when punk and Gypsy-swing band GOGOL BORDELLO took the stage as the second to last band on Saturday night, September 17th. Typically raucous and exuberant or as Chicago Sun-Times characterized as “bonkers,” the seven-piece multicultural band led the audience into a breakneck hardcore set with selections from their critically-hailed new album SOLIDARITINE and their full eighth album catalogue including a frenetic cover of Agnostic Front’s “Victim in Pain” and accompanied onstage by the Hromovytsia Ukrainian Dance Ensemble of Chicago. Applauded Brooklyn Vegan of their performance: “Gogol celebrated human rights, punk history, and the power of dance with all the passion you could ask for.”

“This time at Riot Fest was particularly potent because we are connected with the organizers and the dancers not only through Ukrainian origins but also through punk rock,” said Gogol mastermind Eugene Hutz, referring to the element of Ukrainian awareness that they brought. “To join forces with organizers of Riot Fest and Hromovitzya Ukrainian Dance Ensemble was meaningful and symbolic in many ways which gives us chance to deliver Ukrainian story authentically with huge reach.”
Continuing the celebration of the release of their eighth album SOLIDARITINE which is now available on CD and digitally, Gogol Bordello has released the new video and single “Fire On Ice Floe” which Eugene describes as the “closet case philosopher, tackling the riddles of our lives on the dance floor.” A mix of punk, ska, and Eastern European rhythms into a lively and potent mix, “Fire on Ice Floe” captures the band’s seamless ability to transcend genres with footage filmed during their European tour earlier this year.
With tour dates announced this Fall beginning Oct. 20th at Mr. Small’s Theatre in Pittsburgh, PA and wrapping up in Seattle, WA’s Neptune Theatre on Nov. 14th, Gogol Bordello have announced year end holiday shows in Philadelphia and New York City in December. Tickets for the holiday shows go on general sale Friday, September 23 at 10 AM ET. The full dates are below.
Formed in 1999, Gogol Bordello took their style of Eastern European-influenced gypsy punk and doused it deep into the underground rock of New York City. Imminently beginning a U.S. tour (tour dates below), Gogol Bordello have been praised for their recorded material but especially heaped with accolades about their live shows. Wall Street Journal raved about the band’s live performance saying, “Gogol Bordello mashed punk energy with Eastern European modes for a set that received the wildest reception of any show I saw,” while Los Angeles Times said, “Gogol Bordello celebrates sensuality in both words and raucous, joyful internationalist dance rock.” Pitchfork proclaimed, “Eugene Hutz and his acoustic guitar slapping (think Les Claypool’s hands, but on a six-string) and waving arms summoned the crowd which quadrupled in size by the set’s fourth song. Festival goers were literally running toward the stage” while Consequence hailed “the ever-evolving collective has defied the boundaries of continents and genres in their quest for spiritual illumination through gypsy punk.”
Gogol Bordello is Eugene Hutz (vocals, guitar, percussion), Sergey Ryabtsev (violin), Pedro Erazo (percussion, MC), Boris Pelekh (guitar), Ashley Tobias (dance, percussion), Korey Kingston (drums), and Gil Alexandre (bass).
SOLIDARITINE was produced by Walter Schreifels and is available now on CD/Digital (with vinyl coming in early 2023) via Casa Gogol/Cooking Vinyl.
