UK Alt-Pop/Electronic Artist SALT ASHES Reveals Invigorating “Body Says” (Manuel Riva remix)

“It takes true merit to punch through the alt-pop genre, a very crowded space where artistry is very often immediately compromised into streaming and TikTok tropes, so the effort of Salt Ashes aka Veiga Sanchez on ‘Love, Love’ is felt that much more. ” – Ones To Watch
“A pop star with immaculate self-governing credentials, equal parts charty and arty.” – The Guardian
“Salt Ashes is the dame of dark pop…” – Wonderland

FEBRUARY 25, 2022 (London, UK) —Following on from the release of her sophomore album Killing My Mind in November last year, Salt Ashes (aka Veiga Sanchez) has today released a remix of the album’s focus track, “Body Says,” by Manuel Riva.
Already a club ready banger, Manuel Riva has turned “Body Says” into an atmospheric yet pumping and euphoric sounding house track, driven by Giorgio Moroder inspired synthscapes and immersive, airy electronic textures. The song’s invigorating nature draws on the empowering lyrics of the song, which are all about owning your own body and choices, but the inspiration comes from a more poignant place of understanding the struggles women face each time they go on a night out. Speaking of the song, Veiga said: “I wrote this with my producer Louis, which was a very enlightening experience as we wrote this from a female perspective. It was interesting to see how he understood the struggles women face on a night out without me even saying anything. I want this song to empower people but also just want to get down and fucking dance.”

On the remix, Salt Ashes said: “It’s so great to be working with Manuel Riva again after 5 or so years. I love how Manuel has slowed “Body Says” down yet instilled so much energy into it that it makes you want to dance hard. It’s a vibe.”
Manuel Riva said: “The minute I listened to ‘Body Says,’ I knew I would love to remix it, so when the boys at Radikal Records brought up the subject, it was such an easy decision to make. I was introduced to Salt Ashes years back and have had a thing for her voice since then.”

An album that explored all of the relationships in her life, including hers with the patriarchy, in Killing My Mind, Salt Ashes crafted a fierce combination of slick, yet gritty pop; carrying hard-hitting messages that both challenge and empower in equal measure. “It’s a journey through the last couple of years so it feels very personal and cathartic,” explained Veiga. “I have to stop myself from crying occasionally as some of the subjects are still very raw. But I love that. It makes me know that I really wrote from the heart on this album.”
London-based, Brighton-born singer Salt Ashes burst into the dance music scene with her first full self-titled debut album in 2016, produced by the late Daniel Fridholm (a.k.a. Cruelty), which quickly gained popularity amongst music fans worldwide. She has since released a string of successful singles, with stamps of approval from tastemakers such as The Guardian, Billboard, MTV, Attitude Magazine, NOISEY, Popjustice, Wonderland and CLASH; with BBC Radio (Introducing, Radio 1 & 1Xtra) and Spotify (NMF UK & The Pop List) also showing their support. She has toured with artists such as Tove Styrke, Say Lou Lou, Nimmo, Bright Light Bright Light and ’80s pop sensation Tiffany. Now, with the release of her second album, it’s clear to see Salt Ashes is on the verge of becoming a household name.
Manuel Riva’s remix of “Body Says” is available today (February 25) via Radikal Records. Salt Ashes’ sophomore album Killing My Mind is out now.
