Disney+ Day Rundown

The House of Mouse announced that today would be Disney+ Day a few weeks ago, and they really didn’t disappoint. They didn’t do anything groundbreaking like they will for Investor Day, but we got some good stuff, including Marvel clips, Willow, Boba Fett, and Obi-Wan Kenobi. Below are the bigger details.

Marvel Studios’ 2021 Disney+ Day Special: The special starts with a WandaVision montage/recap, then moves into Falcon and the Winter Soldier, then Loki and What If?. There was no new footage in the first half. These all lead into a series Hawkeye clips which does feature some new footage, which is awesome. We then get a few clips of Oscar Isaac as Moon Knight, Tatiana Maslany as She Hulk (along with Mark Ruffalo), Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan, along with a list of some of the other stuff coming: I Am Groot, The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, What If? S2, Echo, Loki S2, X-Men ’97 animated series, Spider-Man: Freshman Year animated series (I’m assuming from the logo), Ironheart, Agatha: House of Harkness, Armor Wars, Marvel Zombies animated series, and Secret Invasion. Most of these were known, but we got formal confirmation on a few and a couple of the animated series were not previously announced.

Pixar 2021 Disney+ Day: Pete Docter takes everyone through what Pixar is up to while walking their campus. The first announcement, from Larry the Cable Guy, is Cars on the Road starring Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson) and Mater (Larry). The directors of Lightyear and Turning Red kind of announce documentaries on making Pixar movies. Jack Dylan Grazer from Luca announce a short that was released today around his character. Next is Win or Lose, about a softball team; each episode is from a different characters point of view for the same event.

Obi-Wan Kenobi: Disney released a 1 minute behind the scenes featurette on the show; it’s mostly interviews with Deborah Chow and Ewan McGregor along with concept art of the show. Many of the stills were released the day before, so it wasn’t all that new.

The Proud Family: This 1 minute preview is of an animated series coming out soon around a teen and her family.

Limitless with Chris Hemsworth: This 6 episode Nat Geo series from Darren Arnofsky follows Hemsworth as he’s traveling the world to push the limits of his body. It seems pretty interesting to see how far he’ll push himself.

Baymax!: Of everything, this is right there with Marvel and Kenobi for most exciting. The series has been announced for 2022 and this preview gives a glimpse of the magic from the movie. The 1 minute preview shows some of the humor and touching moments we’ll be seeing.

Willow: We get 3 minutes of behind the scenes footage. It does confirm that this is a sequel series. It’s pretty funning though, as Warwick Davis talks with the new cast and they are much younger then him. Erin Kellyman (Solo: A Star Wars Story, Falcon and Winter Soldier) is in the cast, which I don’t know if they had announced previously.

America The Beautiful: Another Nat Geo series, this docuseries looks at some of the different ecosystems across America. Not much else was given in the 2 minutes of footage.

The Simpsons in Plusaversary: This short is full of Simpsonized Disney cameos and a musical number. It’s a cute little cartoon.

Under the Helmet: The Legacy of Boba Fett: There wasn’t much new here other then a few interviews about the character with creators and actors, but it was a fun history of the character with some of the previously released trailer material at the end. It’s worth checking out for fans of the character.

There was more, but I got the highlights. Things like Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings debuted on the app today. Check back as more is added.
