Alt-Pop/Electronic Artist SALT ASHES Announces Hypnotic Sophomore Album, Killing My Mind

“It takes true merit to punch through the alt-pop genre, a very crowded space where artistry is very often immediately compromised into streaming and TikTok tropes, so the effort of Salt Ashes aka Veiga Sanchez on “Love Love” is felt that much more. ” – Ones To Watch

A pop star with immaculate self-governing credentials, equal parts charty and arty.” – The Guardian

“Salt Ashes is the dame of dark pop…” – Wonderland

OCTOBER 14, 2021 (London, UK) — Hotly-tipped UK-based alt-pop/electronic artist SALT ASHES (real name: Veiga Sanchez) will release her highly anticipated sophomore album, Killing My Mind, on November 5, 2021viaRadikal Records. “It’s a journey through the last couple of years of my own relationships, my mental health, and the enormous problem of sexual harassment,” Sanchez explains on the album’s themes. “I take whatever I feel most passionate about and write about it, but often I’ll watch a scene in a movie and take some imagery from there or a dance piece that I’ve felt particularly moved by,” she adds. “I’ve learnt over the years to be unapologetic with music and what I want to say and to allow whatever is inside to come out without putting pressure and restraints on it.”

As far as the inspiration behind the sound for Killing My Mind, she took influence from all the ’80s records she loves, going back to the likes of Giorgio Moroder, The Knife, Fleetwood Mac. “We used a lot of analog synths and live instruments and tried to not limit ourselves with adding color into a chord or sound which is not something I’ve done in a while.”

The Killing My Mind album announcement comes on the heels of Salt Ashes two percolating electro-pop singles: “Too Many Times” (a track that tackles a childhood belief she had about ballerinas having real people stuck inside of them, which got her thinking that that’s what she feels when suffering from intense anxiety) and “Love, Love” (a song that explores the questionable consensual nature of unrequited love and plays with the notion of bondage – both physical and mental). Both the singles and their accompanying provocative videos showcase Sanchez’s mission to bring a refreshing and dark edge to the world of pop music.

WHAT THE PRESS IS SAYING:
“Salt Ashes identified both her sound and strength on a solid debut of alternative dance-pop, a vocal that sat in a sweet spot between Kelela and Kylie.” – The Line Of Best Fit

“She channels the glacial tones of Scandi-pop singers like MØ… adds a deeply organic and earthy element to the genre” – DIY

Her trademark blend of dance music with darker themes comes across loud and clear…” – Billboard

Salt Ashes burst into the dance music scene with her first full self-titled debut album in 2016, produced by the late Daniel Fridholm (a.k.a. Cruelty), which quickly gained popularity with music fans worldwide. She became renowned for her signature dark songs and melodies with a zeitgeist club sound, many of which were inspired by Giorgio Moroder’s blend of disco and epic dark atmospheres.

She has since released a string of successful singles, including “Girls,” “Go All Out,” and “Totally Faking”. She kicked off 2019 with a live performance and Q&A at Apple’s flagship store in London, where she also debuted the music video for her single “Don’t”. In 2020, she released her debut EP counting crosses; her most dynamic collection of songs yet, as well as standalone single, “Cut You With A Kiss,” a song she says is about “questioning the integrity of someone’s new girlfriend and believing that she isn’t good for them.” That single reached #19 on the UK iTunes Pop Single Chart and #40 on the iTunes Overall Singles chart.
