The Great American Beer Festival was held this past weekend and 3 St. Louis breweries brought home medals, along with 2 others that are somewhat close.
In the Other Strong Beer category, Rockwell Brewing took home gold with Kazimierz, a foeder-aged baltic porter at 9.2%, beating out 67 other beers in the category.
Melvin Brewing in Eureka took home a silver in the Experimental Wood-Aged Beer category with House of Flying Barrels: Plumage; unfortunately, there isn’t much info available about this beer. There were 57 entries in the category.
Lastly, Third Wheel Brewing in St. Peters took silver in the Irish-Style Red Ale category with Sandman, their 5.8% Amber/Red. The beer is described as “semi-sweet with a healthy does of rye malt” and features a slightly spicy finish. There were 77 other beers in this group.
It’s also worth noting that BKS Artisan Ales in Kansas City took a silver in the Juicy/Hazy Imperial IPA category with Clouds, while DESTIHL Brewery from Normal, IL took bronze with Deadhead IPA Series: Haze of the Dead. Clouds sits at 8.2% and they use 4 different hops; Haze of the Dead has an ABV of 8.5% and has Citra and Simcoe hops. They were up against 193 other beers.
Congrats to the medalists. Check out the full list of medalists here.
