JOSIE COTTON Journeys into Electropop and Sexy Noir on PUSSYCAT BABYLON Out Today!

“Part Shangri-Las, part Rachel Sweet, the all-original Josie has long been a favorite hipster vocalist of mine ever since I took personally her nasally joyous anthem “Johnny, Are You Queer?”
– John Waters, director/actor/artist

“… cheerfully provocative…” – New York Times

Releases Electro-Pop Masterpiece
PUSSYCAT BABYLON
on Vinyl and DSPs TODAY!

US Tour Dates This Fall

Josie Cotton

AUGUST 24, 2021 (Los Angeles, CA) — Pussycat Babylon was my journey into electro-pop and public nudity,” says New Wave icon JOSIE COTTON with her iconic humor and gogo attitude. “I reveal everything on this record, stripped to the bone, curled up in the fetal position. I eat my own arm.” And with everything laid bare in the tracks, the full-length LP PUSSYCAT BABYLON gets its release on vinyl and DSPs TODAY (August 24, 2021) via Josie’s own record label Kitten Robot Records.

Supporting the release, Josie has several US live shows lined up in Chicago, NYC and San Francisco, with a special show in Jersey City, NJ that includes a screening of the iconic 1983 film Valley Girl with Nicolas Cage in which she appears playing with her band the Party Crashers. See list of dates below.

Pussycat Babylon is an electropop master stroke of musical pastiches, fetching melodies and energetic rhythms and marks her metamorphosis as a songwriter. AntiMusic says, “Cotton has a reputation for producing fun and upbeat pop songs… She wrote most of the songs on this 11-song effort and she did one heck of a good job.” From the motor-revving excitement of “Recipe For Disaster” to the flamboyantly technicolor single “Calling All Girls” to the dark, sexy noir slink of “Stop Iggy Pop” to the majestic disco of “All I Can See Is The Face of Bruce Lee” to the saccharine promiscuity of “Super 8” the album is an excursion into Josie’s ultra-creative and hyperactive mind.

Josie Cotton “Calling All Girls”

Josie returned to the forefront of the music world with new music as well as her own record label Kitten Robot that has released some of the most celebrated alternative artists such as the dark and experimental CrowJane, Dark Mark vs. Skeleton Joe (featuring Mark Lanegan and Joe Cardomone), and Spaghetti & Frank (featuring Supersuckers’ Eddie Spaghetti and The Streetwalkin’ Cheetahs’ Frank Meyer). Over the last two years, Josie herself has released the singles “Ukrainian Cowboy”/ “Cold War Spy,” a holiday track “Every Day Like Christmas,” the album Everything Is Oh Yeah!, and remastered and re-released her albums Invasion of the B-Girls, From the Hip, Frightened By NightingalesMovie Disaster Music and her breakthrough debut album Convertible Music

Pussycat Babylon is out now on Kitten Robot Records.  It was produced by Paul Roessler and Josie Cotton (both of whom also doubled on keyboards, synth bass and drum programming with Roessler adding piano to his credits) and features Marcus Watkins (guitar), Princess Frank (drums), with guest appearances by Geza X (guitars) and Kira Roessler (bass).
