Nine Stones Close’s 2nd album of 2024 ‘Adventures in Anhedonia’ Out Now

Adventures in Anhedonia marks Nine Stones Close’s second album release in 2024, following Diurnal, which came out in July to general critical acclaim. The band was formed by Adrian Jones, who along with Brendan Eyre began writing new material in early 2023 after a long hiatus. During this period, there were no preconceived ideas of themes or styles; it was all about the joy of creating music again. By the summer of 2023, the band hit a wave of productivity and inspiration, leading to a cathartic outpouring of music and words.

Working mostly remotely from studios spread across Switzerland, England, Ireland, and The Netherlands, the band members spent countless hours on video calls and interactive sessions to bring the new music together. The completion of these efforts saw the addition of new members Lars Spijkervet (drums) and Joachim van Praagh (bass guitar), who contributed to finalizing the two albums.

Adventures in Anhedonia is a deeply personal album, with the lyrics reflecting Adrian Jones’ mental state and his experiences over the past years. Adrian explains, “It really reflects what’s been happening to me over the past years, the effect it’s had on me, and how I have tried to deal with some of it.”

The music diverges from Diurnal in tone and feeling, aligning more closely with the themes and emotions that inspired its creation. However, the band maintains the signature Nine Stones Close sound that fans have come to recognize. The album takes listeners on an engaging journey, from the soaring opener ‘Beach Walker’ to the epic closing track ‘Plastic Animals’.

With Paul van Zeeland again producing and mixing the record, the band’s sound has evolved into a stunning sonic landscape. The production blends quiet, reflective, and beautiful moments with soaring, powerful heaviness, all while emphasizing the highest sound quality and dynamics. The band describes this album as some of the most diverse and engaging music they have ever created.
