East Los Angeles garage-punk band Hyper Minds has released a music video for their song Chemical Imbalance. Featured on their debut album, The Dog You Feed, the video was directed by Brett Koehn and depicts the band participating in a gore-filled, post-apocalyptic game show.
The track addresses personal struggles with depression, anxiety, and fluctuating emotional states. Director Brett Koehn developed the visual concept after previously connecting with the band during a live radio session, resulting in a project that combines dark humor with the song’s themes of internal turmoil.

East Los Angeles garage-punk band HYPER MINDS have released the new music video for “Chemical Imbalance,” a track from their debut album, The Dog You Feed, out now via DC-Jam Records/Virgin Music Group. Produced and directed by Brett Koehn, the video brings the band into a post-apocalyptic game show, using gore, dark humor and a bizarre visual premise to accompany a song about the turmoil within.
“Chemical Imbalance” explores the exhausting shifts between emotional extremes, and the struggle to navigate a mind that won’t settle.
“The song ‘Chemical Imbalance’ describes a constant up and down battle within myself that I think a lot of people deal with as well,” the band shares. “Depression, anxiety, your mind and emotions in constant fight or flight mode. I think there are upsides and downsides to struggling in these ways. A double-edged sword, if you will.”
The collaboration grew out of a connection made early in the band’s history. HYPER MINDS first met Koehn when they recorded their first live session at KXLU, where he was serving as music director. They stayed in touch, and after the band signed with DC-Jam Records, Koehn reached out with an offer to make a video together.
“When he explained his idea for a ‘Post Apocalyptic Game Show,’ we couldn’t wait to get to work on it,” the band says. “We had an absolute blast working on this video and working with Brett’s crew that helped us bring the vision to life!”
That shared enthusiasm resulted in a video that embraces its outrageous premise while giving the song’s internal conflict a strange, unsettling setting.
“The video is gory, funny and truly an interesting and visually stunning watch,” the band adds. “We are super proud to have it out and available for everyone to enjoy!”
“Chemical Imbalance” is available now on The Dog You Feed via DC-Jam Records/Virgin Music Group.
