“…they hit a dark and doomy, but undeniably groovy tone akin to peak Queens of the Stone Age.”- Revolver Magazine

“If there’s one thing that can be said for Dropsonic, it’s that they truly rock hard.”- PopMatters

“I know, I know, these guys have been described as “Led Zeppelin-meets-Radiohead” a thousand times before… but f*ck me, that’s seriously right on the money.” – Lollipop Magazine

Following a decade and a half away from the spotlight, Atlanta rock trio Dropsonic is back with “This Ain’t Living”, the third single from their highly anticipated self-titled album. Co-produced by the band and Alice In Chains frontman William DuVall, the album is set for release on May 16th via Spartan Records.

“This Ain’t Living” follows the release of “Honeytrap” and “So Long,” both of which hinted at the band’s bold sonic evolution. Frontman Dan Dixon describes the new track as a fitting finale to the album:

“‘This Ain’t Living’ closes out the record. It ends with the final death rattle of my echoplex as the tape inside chokes on itself. Not a bad sound.”

In an era where digital production dominates, Dropsonic delivers something raw and visceral. Their signature blend of thunderous riffs, fiery solos, and a razor-tight rhythm section remains intact—but this time, it’s paired with a sharper clarity and emotional depth that elevate the band to new creative heights.

DuVall, who provided guidance throughout the process, recalls:

“Dan had been sending me works-in-progress for feedback, but the real joy was being there to watch him work. Dropsonic is one of the best rock bands to come out of America in the last thirty years.”

Though known for their relentless touring and six-album run, Dropsonic disbanded in 2011. Dixon shifted focus to other projects like PLS PLS and producing for other artists. The idea to reunite came during the pandemic, when Dixon began remixing and re-releasing the band’s back catalog. This sparked a creative reconnection, a lineup refresh with drummer Chandler Rentz, and ultimately, the birth of a new record.

“William’s been a close friend for years and deeply understands what Dropsonic is about,” says Dixon. “He was the first person I called when I needed perspective. His guidance was invaluable—and he even contributed backup vocals on ‘Honeytrap.’”

The album’s lyrics dive into themes of desperation, love, addiction, narcissism, and money—balancing raw, spontaneous moments with high-fidelity production. It’s a record that both honors Dropsonic’s legacy and marks a fearless new beginning.

With album number seven just weeks away, Dropsonic’s return feels urgent, charged, and long overdue. This is just the beginning.
