As A Shoreline Dream approaches the 20th anniversary of its debut album, Avoiding the Consequences, the Colorado-based shoegaze outfit turns its gaze inward with “Legacy,” a sludging, bass-driven new single that reflects on two decades of music, sacrifice, persistence, and the life left behind in pursuit of the art.
Available now on digital music platforms including Spotify, Apple Music, and Bandcamp, “Legacy” is a hypnotic shoegaze chant that builds from a heavy, pulsing foundation into a towering chorus of cascading guitars and vocals. At its center, frontman Ryan Policky repeatedly delivers the phrase “Legacy, your legacy instead of it,” a lyrical refrain that mirrors the thought looping through his mind as the band reaches its 20-year milestone.
For Policky, the song is about the complicated cost of dedicating a life to music. Over the course of A Shoreline Dream’s history, nearly 120 tracks have been released — a body of work created while many of the conventional milestones of everyday life were sacrificed in favor of writing, recording, refining, and continuing to push the band’s sound forward.
It is a legacy that is both tragic and rewarding.
“Legacy” arrives during an especially prolific year for A Shoreline Dream. Throughout 2026, the band has embraced an ambitious strategy of releasing one to two singles per month in the lead-up to its next full-length release, creating an ongoing stream of new music rather than waiting for a traditional album cycle.
The momentum follows the band’s collaboration with Mark Gardener of RIDE, facilitated through A Shoreline Dream’s partnership with Shameless PR. That relationship resulted in five co-produced and performed songs, including material featured on To Where They Have Gone, released in February 2026.
Now, A Shoreline Dream is preparing to release its second LP of 2026. “Waiting” arrives October 16, 2026, collecting the seven singles released since March alongside two additional tracks still to come.
“2026 has been the year of true sonic inspiration, and the first time I’ve found myself in a constant music writing mode,” says Ryan Policky. “After working with Mark Gardener, my mind has been humming melodies to me daily. It’s been a brutal human climate, and the distractions are so overwhelming in the media / toxic social media world. I’m f’ing over it. I just want explosive and melodic tunes to distract from this insane world, and these songs are exactly that.”
“The tales of dealing with a world in chaos I hope resonate with all those out there looking for new musical vibes and explosive soundscapes. We have come back to the original feeling of A Shoreline Dream creating melodipsych shoegaze to celebrate this massively long journey.”
With “Legacy,” that journey becomes the subject itself.
The song captures the strange duality of reaching two decades as a band: looking back at everything that was lost, while recognizing everything that was created in its place.
