SALT ASHES Washes Away the “Stains” of Trauma with Dramatic New Video

It takes true merit to punch through the alt-pop genre, a very crowded space where artistry is very often immediately compromised into streaming and TikTok tropes, so the effort of Salt Ashes aka Veiga Sanchez is felt that much more.” – Ones To Watch

JULY 25, 2023 (London, UK) — London-based singer-songwriter, SALT ASHES pushed her dark alt-pop sounds to new heights with the introspective new single, “Stains released on Friday, July 14 via Radikal Records. Now in support of the single comes a stunning music video directed and edited by Joshua Thomas at Titled Hue.

SALT ASHES’ “Stains”

“I knew I wanted to do something with rain to symbolize the washing away of the ‘stains’ or pain, but what we created was better than I could’ve imagined. This was a genuinely beautiful collaboration between myself, the director, choreographer, stylist, MUA and hair that grew into this visual piece of art, in my opinion.” – Salt Ashes

The track was produced and mixed by Louis Souyave who collaborated with her on her 2021 sophomore album Killing My Mind, along with her most recent single “Heart Attack.” The two artists’ chemistry in the studio is on full display, as Souyave weaves her vocals through swells of strings, synths and electronic percussion to an emotional and soulful peak over a wall of hard-hitting guitars.

A slight change of pace from her recent dance and electro-pop tracks, “Stains” sees the singer expertly balancing pop sensibility with an alternative edge as she powerfully delivers the lyrics message of self-reflection and the need to push yourself forward from the pains of the past.

“’Stains’ is a very personal song that I wrote to myself. It’s a song about helping yourself overcome previous pain or trauma and actually asking and allowing yourself to heal because only you can do that.” – Salt Ashes

Early support has come from BBC Radio 1 with Gemma Bradley giving the record its debut on her BBC Introducing show, along with spins from BBC Radio Solent, BBC Sussex & Surrey and The Sound Lab UK.

The London-based, Brighton-born singer Salt Ashes (a.k.a. Veiga Sanchez), bursted into the dance music scene with her first full self-titled debut album back in 2016, produced by the late Daniel Fridholm (a.k.a. Cruelty), which quickly gained popularity among music fans worldwide. She has toured with artists such as Bright Light Bright Light, Tove StyrkeSay Lou LouNimmo, ’80s pop sensation Tiffany, and most recently with Goldfrapp on their UK tour. Before the end of the year, Salt Ashes blessed her fans with an electric show stopping performance at London’s Grace. It’s clear to see Salt Ashes is on the verge of becoming a household name.

Fusing together an array of influences like BjörkDepeche Mode, and Change, Salt Ashes perfects her craft, creating introspective electronic/dance music with a dark, disco-esque flair. Praise has come from far and wide for the artist since her first release back in 2014, most notably by the likes of The GuardianDIYWonderlandBillboardMTVClashLine of Best Fit, and NOISEY.
