June 20, 2022 Springfield, MO – Minor League Baseball announced on Monday that Springfield Cardinals RHP Gordon Graceffo has been named the Texas League Pitcher of the Week for June 13-19. It marks the fourth time already this season that a Cardinal has won a weekly league award, with OF Moises Gomez (April 11-17 and April 18-24) and 1B Chandler Redmond (May 9-15) previously both winning Texas League Player of the Week awards.
Graceffo, 22, cruised through the Corpus Christi Hooks lineup twice last week with a pair of 7.0-inning performances, matching his career high. Graceffo started the series with 7.0 shutout innings on 6/14, allowing just three hits while striking out six. He followed that up by no-hitting the Hooks through his first 4.0 innings on 6/19, finishing with just two runs on three hits and six more strikeouts while not allowing a walk in either start.
Ranked as the Cardinals #20 prospect by MLB.com, Graceffo has gone 2-1 with a 2.73 ERA through his first five Double-A starts, compiling 29.2 innings with 22 strikeouts and only two walks. He set a career high with 7.0 innings for a complete-game performance in his Double-A debut on 5/27 in Tulsa, matching that mark in both outings last week.
Graceffo opened the season with a dominant tenure in High-A Peoria, going 3-2 with a 0.99 ERA in eight starts. He allowed only six runs (just five earned) on 27 hits while walking only four batters and striking out 56 in 45.2 innings. Named the St. Louis Cardinals Minor League Pitcher of the Month for both April and May this season, he became the first Cardinals pitcher to win their monthly award in consecutive months since LHP Austin Gomber (August, 2017 and April, 2018) and the first to do so in the same calendar year since LHP Bud Smith (July, 2000 & August, 2000).
