Marvel has announced the latest casting for season 2 of Daredevil – Jon Bernthal (Shane from “The Walking Dead”) will join the cast as Frank Castle…aka the Punisher.
“Jon Bernthal brings an unmatched intensity to every role he takes on, with a potent blend of power, motivation and vulnerability that will connect with audiences,” said Marvel Head of Television Jeph Loeb via Marvel.com. “Castle’s appearance will bring dramatic changes to the world of Matt Murdock and nothing will be the same.”
The Punisher has appeared on the big screen three different times; Dolph Lundgren in the 1989 version, Thomas Jane in the 2004 version, and Ray Stevenson in the 2008 “Punisher: War Zone.” This will be the first version under Marvel Studios.
I’m glad the character is being introduced on the TV show; he fits the tone of it more than the movies and they have a little more freedom with the dark character. My issue is I’m torn on the casting; I would have liked James to come back to the role. He played the character well in his feature film and his short “Dirty Laundry” nailed the character.
