Review: McSorley’s Irish Pale Ale

Review: McSorley’s Irish Pale Ale

After drinking my disappointing Irish Red (more to come on that later), I needed to find a Red that was much better. McSorley’s was one I’d seen and never tasted, so I figured I’d give it a shot.

Beer: McSorley’s Irish Pale Ale
Brewery: Pabst Brewing Company
Style: Irish Red Ale
ABV: 5.50%

The bottle poured a deep amber as expected (even if the label says Pale Ale). There was a good inch to inch and a half of head with decent retention. The head turned into some spotty lacing.

The aroma was a nice blend of biscuit malt, floral hops, and earthy yeast. There are also some citrus and caramel hints in the smell.

I was disappointed in the taste. You had some of your typical biscuit taste with some hops, but it was pretty bland compared to other Reds. There was no kick to it.

The finish was slightly better than the taste. It’s smooth but comes off almost light. The only issue is the taste didn’t linger.

Appearance: 20 of 25
Aroma: 21 of 25
Taste: 16 of 25
Finish: 18 of 25
Total: 75 of 100, C

It’s an OK beer. If I want a McSorley’s, I’ll go with a their Irish Black Lager. If I want a Irish Red, I’ll go with Killians.
