UConn Admits Recruiting Violation

The University of Connecticut has imposed sanctions on their basketball program, after investigating possible recruiting violations. The school has placed itself on 2 years probation and revoked 1 scholarship for the next 2 years.

The program made telephone calls and text message to recruits and gave free game tickets to high school coaches.

“I am deeply disappointed the university is in this position,” said UConn President Philip E. Austin, in a statement to the media. “It is clear mistakes have been made. This is a serious matter and we have worked in full cooperation with the NCAA. We look forward to fully resolving these issues and restoring our men’s basketball program to a level of unquestioned integrity.”

I love how when a major college program gets caught with their hand in the cookie jar, they feel they should be able to get off with slapping their own wrist. I wish the NCAA would make an example out of one of these schools and show that a harsh penalty will be dished out for violations. As long as this happens to the UConns and USCs, they’ll get off with little said.
