Marvel’s Spider-Verse: A Reading Order

Marvel’s Spider-Verse started out as a comic event; here’s the order to read it

The 2014–2015 Spider-Verse comic event stands as one of Marvel’s most ambitious multiversal crossovers, uniting virtually every parallel-universe variant of Spider-Man ever created. Orchestrated by writer Dan Slott and artist Olivier Coipel, this blockbuster storyline pits the scattered heroes against an existential threat, serving as the direct creative inspiration for Sony’s critically acclaimed animated movies.

The storyline centers around a desperate, dimension-hopping war for survival. A family of ancient, vampire-like cosmic immortals known as The Inheritors travels across the multiverse to hunt down, murder, and devour the life force of “Spider-Totems.” To survive extinction, the scattered Spider-heroes must band together via the multiversal Web of Life and Destiny to form a massive Spider-Army, establishing a tactical base to launch a definitive counter-offensive.

  • Free Comic Book Day 2014 (Guardians of the Galaxy) #1: This has the first casualty of the Inheritors and sets up the event.

  • I noticed that the original publication timeline for the first volume varies significantly depending on the specific printing. The narrative flow changes depending on which issue you start with.
