OCTOBER 25, 2024 (Austin, TX) – “I feel like I hadn’t marinated in its message enough to believe it… and then, like magic, I did,” says Austin-based alt-pop artist SOMEBODY SOMEONE (they/them) about their new single and video “BETTER” which is released today, October 25, 2024. Premiered via American Songwriter who called the track “spellbinding” and “riveting,” the video is an arresting introduction to the artist at the onset of their exciting musical journey.

“This song came to me at a time where I didn’t believe the words I was writing,” they tell American Songwriter. “I was doing some deep inner work and learning to have the same compassion I had for others for myself. So as I was writing this and watching my pen move around on the page, I was sitting there thinking, ‘Where is this coming from?’

“I’m not religious but I am spiritual. I believe in higher powers, ancestral nudges, and universal truths delivered to people willing to accept them. The music I’ve written since penning this song has all been influenced by something greater than myself and I feel like it has something to do with working with and not against my inner nature.”

Summoning the ghosts of Marianne Faithfull, Aldous Harding and Nick Drake, Somebody Someone grew up in Gulfport, MS in a very music-oriented household. Awash in the timeless harmonies of The Beach Boys, The Beatles, and The Mamas & The Papas from their father’s record collection and embracing contemporaries like Fiona Apple and Brandi Carlisle, they immersed themselves in sonic washes that seeped into the music that influences their own music today. They began performing at age 10 at weddings and country gatherings and even opened for Blake Shelton at the Crawfish Music Festival in 2007.

A fortuitous move to Austin (for a tech start-up that didn’t quite pan out), they switched gears and jumped feet first into the music world full time.

The past year marked a profound turning point for the artist marked by challenges related to health, gender identity, and a deeper understanding of their neurodivergence (“I’m neuro-spicy”, they declare with a smile). They realized that music, once a refuge, had become a mechanism for coping rather than a true reflection of their essence as an artist.

“If other people didn’t, music always had space for my feelings,” they explained. “But I didn’t feel good coming offstage. I felt as if I were made of glass. Exposing only the most painful parts of myself was no longer sustainable.”

Now as they embark with “Better” as their first look, Somebody Someone is preparing for their musical trip in 2025 with more music planned. “Hold my hand,” they say excitedly. “We’re going to have some feelings, but we’ll get through it together. It’s a mutual journey.”
