This Week On Marvel Unlimited: 04/23/2024

This Week on Marvel Unlimited sees a couple of beginnings, an ending, and some retro books.

While Marvel Unlimited updated yesterday, I’m here today with all the new (3 month old) comics. Avengers Twilight is the latest book to get added prior to the 3 month date, with #2 being early. We also get a new Cable book and some vintage Avengers West Coast…West Coast Avengers…whatever that title was.

This Week On Marvel Unlimited: Avengers Twilight #1

*Fall of X

Avengers: Twilight is a Chip Zdarsky book and I’ve heard nothing but great things about it; Steve Rogers is now longer Captain America in this Old Man Cap type story…Cable #1 is the latest series with old man Cable (the last was young Cable)…Bounty Hunter is the final issue of the series…

Here are the Infinity Comics from the last week:

  • X-Men Unlimited Infinity Comic #136 (04/22/2024)

And the old books added to the app:

  • West Coast Avengers #83
  • West Coast Avengers #84
  • West Coast Avengers #85
  • West Coast Avengers #86
  • West Coast Avengers #87
  • West Coast Avengers #88
  • West Coast Avengers Annual #7

Finally, we have a few quick hit reviews.

  • Sentry #2: The Sentry’s powers are disbursing through regular people, but it’s a Highlander, there can be only one type thing. “Ryan Sentry” is taking out the competition and shows up at the end of the issue to help the Avengers; I see a battle coming. There is one he hasn’t taken out and she’s out to do good. It’s an interesting book that is using a recycled premise. Grade B.
  • Spider-Gwen: Smash #2: The MJs join Dazzlers tour so Gwen can help as a body guard. The team, along with Dazzler, Black Widow, and Lila Cheney, need to find out why the Hulk is stalking Dazzler. This universe’s version of Pixie shows up to interfere with Dazzler’s concert while Lila is kidnapped. The mystery is who is the Hulk, and it’s been pretty obvious to those of us reading who it is. Grade B-.
  • Thunderbolts #2: Bucky and the Widows infiltrate the Kingpin’s Hellfire Club (see Fall of X) to get the Red Skull’s fortune. Watching the team interact is fun and their heist is entertaining. While they escape Fisk, I’m hoping that we get to see more of the team vs the Kingpin because they left it open to more. Solid book. Grade B.
  • Ultimate Spider-Man #1: What happens when the spider who is supposed to bite Peter Parker it is taken, preventing him from becoming Spider-Man? He becomes an employee for the Daily Bugle, raising 2 kids with MJ, and feeling that something is missing. It’s a great set up issue for what is to come. Grade A and co-book of the week.
  • Ultimate Spider-Man #2: Peter is bitten at the end of #1 and is starting to learn about his powers. He takes on the Shocker a few times and it doesn’t go well, as he learns how to be Spider-Man as an adult. It’s a great book with a new twist. Grade A.

I’ll be back tomorrow with the DC companion column.
