Cult New York group Frog have announced their first live performance film, “Unplugged and Unhinged.” This film by Jarod Walker will be released on March 8th via the band’s new Patreon where they will be premiering audio and video recordings of their shows in the future. Fan favorite “Don’t Tell Me Where You’re Going“ has been uploaded to YouTube as a teaser/trailer.
Recorded at a sold-out show in Manhattan’s Canary Club this past December, the film is their first since the award-winning ‘Kings of Blah’ documentary, and it captures Frog playing acoustically for the very first time. “Unplugged and Unhinged” also offers the first official recordings of their expanded lineup as band leader Daniel Bateman (Guitar/Vocals) and his brother Steve Bateman (Drums) are joined by returning co-founder Tom White (who has traded the drum kit for bass).
The band’s profile has continued to grow with the success of their ‘GROG’ album (Audio Antihero / Tapewormies) which was praised by Pitchfork,Stereogum,Post-Trash,The Alternative, and Bandcamp Daily in addition to airplay from KEXP, KCRW, WKDU, and the BBC.
“Herpetologist Society Member” Patreon Benefits ($6.99):
Frog will also be recording a slew of new shows this month, including their first-ever Pennsylvania date; a performance in New York’s legendary Knitting Factory; and their first Massachusetts date since 2019.
After back-to-back advance sellouts in Manhattan and Brooklyn, these March shows will offer some people their very first opportunity to see the increasingly popular trio.

Press for Frog’s ‘GROG’ LP:
“Daniel’s humdrum American portraiture and embodiment of passionate persistence have defined Frog’s sound for nearly a decade, and on Grog, a brotherly bond encourages those songwriting traits to get louder, bolder, and weirder without sacrificing any of the heart.” –PITCHFORK
“A distinct, off-kilter personality that’s just slightly off in the best way possible. The end results are riveting—or should I say ribbeting?” – BANDCAMP DAILY
“Remarkable…a gritty, idiosyncratic vignette of the city.” – STEREOGUM
“If you like the idea of The Muppets playing Bruce Springsteen on a rainy street corner with instruments that don’t have names yet, this album is for you.” – THE ALTERNATIVE
“Beaming…surprising and seductive.” – POST-TRASH
Artist Quote for Film & Patreon:
“We’ll be uploading a recording of every show we play to Patreon. These will be exclusive for Patreon members for some period of time before we release them anywhere else. If we’re able to record video of the shows, we’ll also upload that here.
“Jarod came to this show and captured us playing an unplugged acoustic set. We never practiced in this iteration, and a bunch of the songs we had never played before with each other, so it was an experiment! We had fun. Luckily Jarod cut most of the parts where I’m embarrassing myself, although we can release them if anyone is craving cringe content.
“Watching and listening to this show convinced me that I needed to shut up more––but then at the next show, everyone said they missed my endless diatribes. You don’t know what you got ’till it’s gone.” – Daniel Bateman (Frog)
