Important Dates For the Cardinals Off-Season
The off-season is officially here now that the Rangers have taken the World Series from the Diamondbacks. That means, things go in motion now. Here is the roadmap for the off-season.
- November 2: Players can declare as free agents; this starts the exclusive negotiating period between free agents and their current team. The Cardinals free agents are:
- Jacob Barnes, RHP
- Tres Barrera, C
- Casey Lawrence, RHP
- Taylor Motter, IF
- Juniel Querecuto, IF
- Andrew Suarez, LHP
- Drew VerHagen, RHP
- Adam Wainwright, RHP (Retired)
- November 5: Gold Glove Winners Announced
- Tommy Edman (Utility) is the only Cardinal as a finalist.
- November 6: Teams can start signing free agents from other organizations.
- November 7-9: GM Meeting in Arizona.
- November 13-16: IBWAA announces their awards.
- November 14: Teams must make qualifying offers to free agents. This year, the QO is set at $20.325. The Cardinals probably won’t make a QO to any of their free agents.
- November 14: Teams must set their 40-man roster for the Rule V Draft; eligible players must be placed on the 40-man roster to be protected. Here are the Rule V eligible players in the system:

- November 14-16: Owners Meetings in Texas; owners are expect to vote on the relocation of the Oakland Athletics.
- November 17: Non-tender deadline. Players who are arbitration eligible can be non-tendered and become free agents. Here are the Cardinals arbitration eligible players with service time and projected salaries:

- Dakota Hudson (4.156): $3.7MM
- Tommy Edman (4.114): $6.5MM
- Ryan Helsley (4.105): $3MM
- Andrew Knizner (4.021): $2MM
- Dylan Carlson (3.104): $1.8MM
- Jake Woodford (3.048): $1.1MM
- JoJo Romero (3.045): $900K
- Non-tender candidates include Hudson, Knizner, and Woodford.
- December 3-6: Team Meetings in Nashville.
- December 5: 2024 Draft Lottery; the league will hold the lottery to determine the first round draft order (See odds here).
- December 6: Rule V Draft
- December 15: The 2023 International Free Agent period closes.
- January 12: Deadline for players and teams to submit arbitration numbers. Deals can still be worked out after this date.
- January 15: The 2024 International Free Agent period opens.
- February 13: Pitchers and Catchers report to Spring Training.
- February 18: All remaining players to report to Spring Training.
- March 20-21: Dodgers vs Padres to open season in Korea.
- March 28: Opening Day for the remaining 28 teams.
- Rosters to be set at 26-men.
