Lindy Morrison honoured with Lifetime Achievement Award at Qld Music Awards
Award follows the announcement of Lindy’s new project, SnarskiCircusLindyBand – with Rob Snarski (The Blackeyed Susans), Lindy Morrison (The Go-Betweens), ‘Evil’ Graham Lee (The Triffids, The Blackeyed Susans), Shane O’Mara (Rebecca’s Empire, Chris Wilson, The Silversound), and Dan Kelly (Paul Kelly, Dan Kelly & The Alpha Males)
Mini-LP Someone Said That Someone Said coming in May, tour to follow
In one of three “major awards” presented at the Queensland Music Awards, Lindy Morrison was presented with a LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD.
As per QMUSIC‘s press release, “Local industry icon, and drummer for The Go Betweens, Belinda ‘Lindy’ Morrison OAM was honored with the
Lifetime Achievement Award for her decades of work as an advocate for First Nations people and women in the music industry as well as her outstanding contribution to Queensland music.”
Lindy’s own acceptance speech summed up her work – and that of her fellow musicians – in typically generous and suitably dramatic fashion: “We musicians here in QLD have always been outsiders, misfits, alternate and counter cultural. That’s why there are so many great musicians in the legacy of QLD music and in this very room tonight. And this is what we know, this is why we are here. In our art there lies a truth and in our music a salvation.”
The award follows the recent announcement of the new group SnarskiCircusLindyBand, formed by Morrison and Blackeyed Susans singer Rob Snarski and also featuring ‘Evil’ Graham Lee (The Triffids, The Blackeyed Susans), Shane O’Mara (Rebecca’s Empire, Chris Wilson, The Silversound) and Dan Kelly (Paul Kelly, Dan Kelly & The Alpha Males).
SnarskiCircusLindyBand have just announced a tour and will release their debut mini-LP Someone Said That Someone Said next month.
A lot has happened since Lindy Morrison vowed never to see Rob Snarski perform again. Morrison approached the singer-songwriter post show, having attended a liquid lunch and feeling a tad vulnerable, she berated him for embracing sadness and lacking up-tempo, finger-snapping, melodic numbers. En garde!!
Not long after, the two began performing around the country in duo mode – before roping in ‘Evil’ Graham Lee [Triffids/pedal steel], Shane O’Mara [Rebecca’s Empire/Chris Wilson/Silversound] and more recently Dan Kelly [nephew of Paul] to form ‘supergroup’ … SnarskiCircusLindyBand.
After touring briefly together, arguing incessantly along the way, they somehow agreed to record a batch of new songs Snarski had been conjuring with this band in mind.
So, with the new mini-album Someone Said That Someone Said in their pocket [due for release in early May] the group of misfits hit the road in the depths of Australia’s autumnal months to play their new tunes including “Shane O’Mara Wore Mascara”, “Since I Slept With You Everybody Wants To Sleep With Me” [a co-write with Lindy] and take a deep dive into Snarski’s less humourous, narrative driven, song writing past.
Someone Said That Someone Said is available in May on all streaming services and via MGM Distribution. If you’d like to pre-order the CD from RSHQ follow the link here – Pre-order: “Someone Said That Someone Said”
