MAPLE MARS To Drop “Anchors Away” Digital Single January 20

Big Stir Records is thrilled to kick of our 2023 release year of with a new single – and a truly grand video – from MAPLE MARS! “Anchors Aweigh” is the fourth track from the LA psych-pop legends’ hit album SOMEONE’S GOT TO LISTEN to see release as standalone digital single, and like everything on the record it does indeed demand the attention of the listener (and viewer) from the downbeat. In July of 2022, MAPLE MARS returned with their first album in over a decade, and as 2023 dawns SOMEONE’S GOT TO LISTEN is adorning “Year’s Best Albums” lists from the UK to South America, the EU, and of course back home in the US. That’s proof, if any was needed, that the new record is even bigger and and better than the band’s legendary back catalog. The new single, a bonafide arena-sized rocker that taps into the album’s themes of transition and travel, showcases the band (singer-songwriter-guitarist RICK HROMADKA, guitarist STEVE BERNS, drummer RON PAK, and bassist JOE GIDDINGS) at their captivating best. “I wrote this song over a lonely Christmas a few years ago up in Lake Tahoe,” says HROMADKA. “An old ‘salty dog’ sea captain is lost at sea looking for land. I guess that’s how I felt celebrating Christmas alone for the first time in many years.” The propulsive performance, though, is shot through with hope and adventure, sweeping the listener along for the voyage.

The all-new video for “Anchors Aweigh”, set to premiere January 19 exclusively via ROCK & ROLL GLOBE, brings the song’s nautical imagery alive quite literally – it just wouldn’t do to spoil the surprise! You’ll also see shots from the band’s triumphant Los Angeles album release party show last year, and clips of the band in the studio where the album came together.
