Berlin-Based Genre-Defying LOSERS Release Endearing “Follow You” Video

Already the dreamiest piece of music to come out this year, the track blends psychedelic-esque vocals, sultry guitars that soar as far as the stratosphere will let them and keys that keep building and never let up.” – Play Too Much on “Lost in Translation”

Sporting a fresh lyrical focus and refreshed instrumentation, this song [‘Fool Anyone’] found new life as a critique of the sinister information warfare that is quickly shaping our lives. Meanwhile, the accompanying video acts as a parody of cheesy ‘90s infomercials, now with a modern twist.

Found New Perspective In “Follow You” Lyrics

Final Video Off Newly Released EP Titled EP01

LOSERS “Follow You”

AUGUST 16, 2021 (Berlin, Germany) — Today, Berlin-based genre-defying band LOSERS have unveiled their new music video “Follow You” – the last single/video taken off their new EP, EP01 (release date: June 28, 2021). The music and lyrics to “Follow You” were written by guitarist/vocalist Paul Mullen and multi-instrumentalist/vocalist Tom Bellamy back in 2015. Bellamy remembers, “Quite often in our process we would be working on a piece of music and Paul would suddenly spring to the mic and try to guide a vocal. Paul then came up with the ‘Follow You’ refrain and top line melody and instantly it connected with us.” They spent some time over the course of a year, writing lyrics that built up more imagery around that theme. “I love that part of the process,” Bellamy says excitedly, “Filling in the blanks so to speak. It’s like finishing off a jigsaw puzzle (which I also love!). We ended up with something that really felt special to me.”

Bellamy says that as a listener, his stance on the meaning of the “Follow You” lyrics had originally seemed to morph over time because it conjured up “so much imagery. For me as a listener, each time I listen to it, it brings a slightly different point of view,” he adds. Right before the filming of the video, he stated that the track was “a song about relationships. The relationship we have with ourselves, our friends and family, and the world around us.” However, it wasn’t until after Bellamy filmed the accompanying video that he started questioning the theme of relationship a lot more deeply, adding that during the film making process he stumbled across something beautiful, something that made him “stop in his tracks, that took their words and gave the sentiment a whole new context.”    Bellamy has this to say about how the final “Follow You” video came together…

“The plan for the video was very simple; to take some footage of my daughter trying to catch butterflies. Easy! I wanted to film her leading me to a field, looking really happy and in charge. The viewer would see her from the cameraman’s perspective and literally be following her somewhere unknown.

“Cut to the day of the shoot. It was getting near the end of a beautiful summer’s day and my daughter was hot and tired and was not interested in performing for me. She basically got fed up really quickly after realizing that she had been duped into performing instead of just being free and spontaneous, like every child wants to be. I however had an agenda and was not being very compassionate. I wanted Instagram perfection!… I was not going to get it because she was having a tantrum which meant I probably didn’t even have enough footage to scrape together a half decent film.

“When I got back home, I looked back at what I had shot and there wasn’t enough ‘happy’ footage to create the illusion I had dreamt up. Fail. And then something brilliant happened…

“On returning home, I suddenly remembered I had fastened my iPhone to my bike to get some different angles. I began to watch back what this ‘fly on the wall’ had recorded and immediately my disappointment transformed into joy. I had inadvertently filmed myself, prancing around like a buffoon, trying to encourage my daughter to do something that she didn’t want to do. This was reality, or at least a different side to reality. A relatively different perspective. A different angle of the same relationship.

“For a few minutes, I was able to step out of my shoes and see my relationship with my daughter as a witness. I could empathize with her. How often do we just see what we want to see? And how often do we really put ourselves in other people’s shoes to think about how life might be perceived from their angle? How often do we misread situations and simply get the wrong end of the stick?

“So, beware of the prancing cameraman but remember that we were all once children who just wanted to be free, looking to love and be loved and to connect with one another. More now than ever, at a time when we all seem to be so polarized, it is so important to stay open to other people’s points of view and not to get caught up in our own beliefs and views.

“If we could see everybody’s journey, everybody’s truth, from all angles, warts and all, then I’m sure we would be much more willing to show compassion. So next time a relationship might not be going how you want it to, allow empathy to take the lead.”

The tracks on EP01 showcase Losers journey from the heavy and somberness of their past into the lighthearted and hopeful present. The band says optimistically, “It’s time to let the light in. With the right frame of mind, even from the darkest of places, anything is possible if you put your mind to it.”

LOSERS are going to continue to stay busy for the rest of 2021 via new and innovative platforms like Decentraland (https://decentraland.org/) who they’ve been partnering with to release their new music. To sign up for free to future webinars join Club Losers HERE.

Formed in 2007, Losers are comprised of DJ Eddy Temple-Morris, multi-instrumentalist/vocalist Tom Bellamy (formerly of The Cooper Temple Clause), and guitarist/vocalist Paul Mullen (formerly of Yourcodenameis:milo and The Automatic). Hailed by critics and fellow artists alike who reveled in the band’s ability to seamlessly merge indie electronic music with guitar rock, Losers have been so venerated that their dynamic and epically sweeping music has been heard in dozens of TV, film, videogames and sports placements including Game of Thrones, The Blacklist, Hercules, The Killing, and as the official theme music for BMX Championships London 2012 Olympic Games. Earlier this year, they released a reworking of Tears for Fears’ 1985 smash “Shout” – which has been prominently featured in the hit show A Discovery of Witches (S2: Ep 4) on Amazon PrimeAMC+, Sundance Now, and Shudder and is not only rejuvenating their loyal fanbase but also winning over new fans who heard their dark cover and fell in love.
